That’s right, I said it right there in the title, TEAM ANGRY + 24 Hours of LeMons = MAYHEM!! For those of you that have never experienced the 24 Hours of LeMons I can tell you from experience that you are missing one of the greatest automotive racing series in history. Comprised of up to 80 cars at a clip, the 24 Hours of LeMons is the most down to earth, home grown, grass roots form of motor racing there is. The premise is simple, get a car that costs no more than $500, install a roll cage, some safety equipment and a drivers ass in the seat and hit the track for some of the coolest and most competitive endurance racing in existence.

24 Hours of LeMons

The 24 Hours of LeMons began back in 2006 and since then has spawned into one of the most popular race series in the United States. For those of us out there who like to race and or be competitive then you understand that being competitive in the arena of motor sports is not a cheap endeavor. First you need a car, then you must enter a series, then there’s money for parts like tires, brakes, suspension, fire equipment, racing gear, etc. The list goes on and on and with that, so does the amount of moola’ for which you are going to spend.

Last year I had the opportunity to participate in the 24 Hours of LeMons up at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT and to say that I got hooked would be an understatement. I ran with Team Trailing Throttle Oversteer in a 1963 Corvair that eventually went on to win the coveted Index of Effluency award. The Corvair was probably the worst handling car I’d ever driven but that didn’t change the fact that it was one hell of a lot of fun. This year I’m heading back to Stafford Motor Speedway, but with a new team and a new car. Now most teams try to keep their cars hidden until the very end, but for us, the members of TEAM ANGRY, well, we simply don’t give a crap.

What your car really says about you.

There is no question that the car you drive says a lot about who you are as a person. It gives the public a little insight into everything from your lifestyle, to your economic background, to the light in which you’d like to be perceived. Sometimes though it’s better to stay in the shadows as your ride can sometimes give away a little more information than you’d like it to. Take these ten rides for example. Not only do these automobiles cover the majority of the automotive spectrum but they also give you a little glimpse into the lives of the people who buy them.

Citroën Wins Every 24 Hours of LeMons, Past, Present, and Future

The most significant automotive news of this century seems to have slipped under the radar. A ratty, busted-to-hell Citroën completed the 24 Hours of LeMons this weekend. Complex hydraulic system and all. As the venerable Murilee Martin said, “It is impossible to overstate the magnitude of this achievement.”

Team Air Prance Schitroën essentially dug the ’72 ID out of the trash. It had been sitting for 20 years and wasn’t running until the Friday before the race. They literally revived it hours before they hit the track. And it finished without exploding into a cloud of unobtainable French parts or spraying the track with Citroën hydraulic fluid. The feat is on par with firing up the Large Hadron Collider. Somebody should make this day a holiday.

24 hrs. of LeMons: Ford Escort tussles with ’72 Gremlin and Loses.

For those of you who don’t know, the 24 Hours of LeMon’s Racing Series is a no-holds-barrded showdown between cars purchased for no more than $500. I ran one event last season at Stafford Speedway in CT. in a 1963 Chevrolet Corvair and to say it was chaos would be very kind indeed. To give you an example of the mayhem that sometimes takes place check out the following video. What you’re seeing is a late model Ford Escort coming in contact with a 1972 Gremlin. The Escort catches a wheel and gets launched into the stratosphere so quickly that the poor bastard behind the wheel never saw it coming. This is grassroots racing at its finest.
