It’s no secret that the SEMA show in Las Vegas is the pinnacle when it comes to the automotive aftermarket. Everyone who’s anyone in the industry is there, well, almost everyone. You see this year we (the Ridelust crew) couldn’t make it, but thankfully for us we’ve got loads of friends who did. The guys from HOT ROD Magazine and Cardomain.com were there all week snapping shots, so when they asked us to post up “HOT ROD Magazine’s SEMA Top 10 Trendsetters of 2012″, we just couldn’t say no.

Al Lamb 265 mph CBR 1000RR

The Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of over 260 mph, cost almost 2-million dollars and is one of the most technically advanced machines ever created for public purchase. It also has 2 doors, enough airbags to create a marshmallow, and electronics that make sure you don’t kill yourself if you get stupid with the go-pedal. Back in September pilot Al Lamb decided to forgo safety features, ditch two wheels and run a modified Honda CBR1000RR on the Bonneville Salt Flats to an amazing top speed of 265.454 mph. So, for those of you who think going 200 + mph in a car is impressive, watch the following video and prepare to have the meaning of impressive redefined.

What if… it was a beautiful, cool and crisp Sunday morning…

What if… you owned a fast vehicle…

What if… you had 90 miles of deserted Nevada Highway before you… and…

What if… Jimi Day invited you to navigate for him for the 25th Anniversary Silver State Classic Challenge in his 1969 AMX fondly known as AMXess?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

If you were me, you would double check that he was serious (yes, he is), you would double check your calendar (yes, you will miss the Reno Air Races, again), and double check with your husband that he wouldn’t mind (he is thrilled for you), and you would start packing.

Posted in Best of, Car Reviews, DRIVE, General, Racing Coverage, Videos by MrAngry | October 16th, 2012 | Leave a Reply |

Targa California

The roads in California are some of the best the world has to offer. They range from beautiful coastal highways and back country roads, to stunning two lane mountain trails. Targa California understands this and thus offers up a 3 day back roads driving experience for classic cars 1975 and earlier. All makes and models are welcome with the cost being around $200.00. This isn’t a bonsai run type of event, but a wonderful jaunt through some of the best countryside and coastline roads the United States has to offer. You can find out more information by clicking here, but also make sure to click through and watch the video after the jump.

Shogun Tango: Is this the Bonneville of the Future?

Posted in Best of, Educational, General, Land Speed Record, Racing Coverage, Videos by MrAngry | October 16th, 2012 | 1 Response |

Shogun Tango

When I was a kid I wondered what the future held in store for the automobile. Would they fly, become all electric and more importantly, would society still use them. Over the years things have changed, but not to the extent that the experts had originally thought. We still roll on rubber tires, still burn fossil fuels and thankfully, still have a choice as to what we want to drive. What about racing though – how is that going to change? Shogun Tango is a short film depicting what Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats might be like in the not-so-distant future. Click through to check it out.

Red Bull F1 Lincoln Tunnel

I can tell you from experience that one of the best parts about being a native New Yorker was ripping through the Holland, Mid-town and Lincoln tunnels at full-tilt with the exhaust of my 1968 Dodge Charger bellowing off the walls. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Red Bull decided to do the same thing with their Formula 1 Car. It must be nice to have the clout to shut down the entire tunnel and pull a stunt like this.

Bravo Red Bull, bravo!

Porsche 962 Chris Harris on Cars

Can you imagine getting a call from Ferrari or Porsche asking you to drive one of their priceless race cars? I mean for a car guy, that’s a wet dream come true. Chris Harris recently had that happen when Porsche called him up and said, “Hey Chris, how about you come on over and drive our Le Mans Winning Porsche 962?” Honestly, if he’d had said no I’d have flown to the UK, killed him and then driven the damn thing myself. Thankfully though, he said yes… Click through and check it out.
