2011 New York International Auto Show

Scion FR-S Concept

Yesterday I attended a press day at the New York International Auto Show and while there were some beautiful cars there, I wasn’t blown away by anything in particular. Some of the old favorites like BMW and Mercedes-Benz where there pimping out cars like the new 1 Series M Coupe and SLS Gullwing, while others, like Honda, were there simply because it was the right place to be. GM had a display that was amazing, and with cars like the new 2012 Malibu and Camaro ZL1 on hand, you could tell that they were serious about getting consumers back into their rides. I walked around for the better part of 3 hours, snapping a few shots here and there and figured I post up some of the standouts. Just click through to view the photos and enjoy.

Rumor: 2012 Cherokee SRT8 To Debut At NYIAS

2012 Jeep Cherokee SRT8

An artist's rendering of what the SRT8 may look like.

This year’s New York Auto Show runs from April 22 through May 1; we’ve still got Geneva to get through first, but rumors are already flying about what will be shown at the next significant North American show. Motor Authority is reporting that Jeep will debut the new SRT8 version of the Grand Cherokee in New York, and that’s a good thing since we’re fond of the quasi-sensible hoonmobile. In addition to a better looking new body style, the updated Grand Cherokee SRT8 gets the 6.4 liter Hemi V8, good for 470 horsepower and mated to a paddle shift five speed automatic transmission. Ensuring the power gets to the ground, all SRT8 Cherokees come standard with AWD. Read More…

Is Ford Planning a New Super Car?

Ford GT

Back in 2005 Ford released what was arguably one of the best looking super cars of all time. It was the Ford GT and it paid homage to the exotic Ford GT40 race cars that decimated Ferrari in the 1960’s. Powered by what was basically a supercharged Ford F-150 pickup engine, the Ford GT pumped out 550 hp and had a top speed of 205 mph. Sadly Ford only produced the iconic GT for two years (2005-2006) and because of this demand for pristine used ones is still quite high. Automobile Magazine’s Eric Tingwall however is now reporting that there may now be a successor on the way, according to a question he asked during a Q&A session with Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s head of global product development. The question was simple: “Is Ford interested in a successor to the GT?” – with that and careful wording Mr. Kuzak stated, “Well I think there are certain things that we don’t want to talk about in terms of four-year product plans, if that’s okay,” – yep, that’s just fine by us. 2011 Shelby GT 500

The accolades that the new 2011 Ford Mustang GT has received have been nothing short of stellar. Not only does it look fantastic, but power wise the thing is a hammer, in fact it recently made 395 rear wheel horsepower on the dyno! Ladies and gents, these are big numbers and I have no doubt that Ford is going to sell these babies by the thousands.

NYIAS: 2011 Subaru WRX: Wider IS Better.

Subaru WRX

When I first saw the new renderings of the 2011 Subaru WRX I was less than impressed, but now, after seeing it in person I have to say that this little rice rocket is a burly little beast. Subaru has widened the track of its little hot rod by 1.5 inches, flared out the front and rear fenders ala’ the STI, added a much more aggressive front fascia and gave it a dual exhaust. This all adds up to a very cool little corner carver.

A-Team Van

I know we’ve said this before but being a part of the automotive press does have it’s advantages. We get into shows early, climb up, over, around and in just about everything that’s on the show floor and also get to look at the floor models, if you get my drift. I got here about 8 am this morning and so far it looks to be a pretty good show. A few months ago I attended the Washington, DC Auto Show and to say it was terrible would be the understatement of the century. Manufacturers just didn’t pony up the cash to show consumers anything exciting and their displays were less than pitiful.
