1974 BMW 2002

Remember when I talked about how old cars will always be cool? Well, here’s another perfect example of that. This is a 1974 BMW 2002 that has gone through a full restoration that not only includes performance upgrades but visual enhancements as well. Gone is the original 2.0-liter inline-4 and in its place sits a 70 thousand mile M20 6-cylinder that makes about 168 hp. The engine is backed by a Getrag 245 series 5-speed transmission out of a Euro-spec BMW 323. Just about every mechanical part on the car has either been replaced or modified with better equipment to create the beauty you see here. The suspension for example has been completely redone with Bilstein sport shocks, New Ireland Engineering stage 2 springs and bigger sway bars. Brakes are 4-wheel discs that utilize Wilwood Superlite Calipers, Wilwood bias valve and the master cylinder from a 7-series. As for wheels, those are 15×7 BBS RZ’s and honestly, they look stellar on this car.

Buy Lars von Trier’s Motorhome

Lars von Trier Mobilehome

A person is selling on eBay what he claims to be the beloved motorhome of Lars von Trier, acclaimed director of such family friendly hits as The Idiots and Antichrist.

The vehicle is a 1992 Dethleffs Advange, with 74,520 miles. The “buy it now” price is $150,000.

Von Trier is known to have a deathly fear of flying, adding some credibility to the listing, which describes the vehicle as: “Lars´ only way of travel for a period of more than 10 years…” Yet not only was it a means of transportation, but also an incubator of creativity.  Adds the listing, “Some of Lars´ biggest ideas went from idea to script in this vehicle.”

One downside, though: the smell. The director states, “Looking forward to get rid of the smell of Diesel. Hope a potential buyer likes this smell, as Diesel has been poured over the floor several times.”

Apart from the odor, the disturbing and baffling pouring of fuel inside one’s own travel and living quarters, and of course the price, it’s totally worth it because it’s not only a vehicle, it’s also a home. In other words, it’s a house you can race. Plus, it was Lars von Trier’s racehouse. Even better. And if you’re a fan of his, this is your chance to own the very place that may have inspired his scenes of appalling torture, mutilation, and graphic Willem Dafoe sex. A total win-win!

Do You Have Cabin Fever?

1973 Alfa Romeo GTV

Winter totally blows – there I said it. So far this year in the Northeast we’ve received record snowfalls and temperatures so cold that it feels as though my nipples are going to pop off and roll away. For car enthusiasts weather like this leads us to do stupid things like scour the internet in search of cars and or parts that we simply don’t need. For example, I was searching eBay this morning when I came across this little diddy – a 1973 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV. I love these little cars and from a styling perspective think that they are some of the most attractive machines that Alfa Romeo ever built. This one is located a mere 3,000 miles away in sunny Los Angeles, CA. It’s got dark eggplant paint, a refurbished interior and some minor suspension work. It would also be an absolute hoot to tool around NYC in. Read More…

The Worst AMC Javelin I’ve Ever Seen….

1973 AMC Javelin

Ever see a car that made you real back in horror as soon as you set eyes on it? Well that’s exactly what happened to me when I was cruising eBay this afternoon. This is a 1973 AMC Javelin, a car that in stock form is one of the best looking cars from the muscle car era. This one has been tweaked and customized in the worst way imaginable with a body kit that looks like it came from a J.C. Whitney catalog and a paint job that looks like it was done behind a bodega someplace in the Bronx. The eBay ad states that the car is equipped with a blaster kit (ugh…), a 304 cu-in V8 and a “One of a Kind Paint Job” – yeah, ya’ think. If the pictures in this ad tell you anything, it should be to run far, far away. Read More…

David Beckham’s 911 Turbo for Sale on eBay.

David Beckham 911 Turbo

What we have here is soccer star David Beckham’s 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo and it’s up for sale on eBay. Aside from soccer though Beckham is also known for being married to one of the old Spice Girls, not sure which one though, nor do I care. This particular 911 Turbo has been given the full murdered out treatment, and while I dig that, I can’t really get with the fact that his number (23) is plastered everywhere. It’s on the seats, the center caps of the wheels, and the floor mats. Who knows, maybe Beckham just has a bad memory and constantly needs to be reminded of who he is. Aside from the numbers everywhere I have to say this car truly is in pristine condition, and with just over 6500 mile on the clock it’s also just barely broken in. Other custom modifications aside from the paint and upholstery work, are a nice set of rims, Techart exhaust system and bass speakers hidden under the rear jump seats – all in all a great car. I’m just wondering how much moola’ it would cost to get all those 23′s out of that thing.

Go Big or Go Home: 1972 Chrysler Town & Country Wagon

1972 Chrysler Town and Country Wagon

Remember the good old days when cars were cars and men were men? Well, now thanks to eBay you too can go back to a time when the massive road beasts of yesteryear roamed the streets. Thanks to a bizarre affinity for station wagons, I always find myself searching sites like Craigslist and Ebay for these old battle tanks. Maybe it’s because that’s what I grew up with as a kid, or maybe I just like the fact that they’re 20-feet long and made of true Detroit steel. Either way though, I’m constantly diggin’ on these things.

The Nicest Fox Bodied Saleen Mustang On The Planet

1988 Saleen Mustang

If you have a thing for Fox bodied Mustangs and you’re a fan of Steve Saleen, head on over to Bring A Trailer or eBay for the rundown on what has to be the nicest early Saleen Mustang left in existence. It’s only racked up 7,100 miles, it’s never seen rain or snow, it’s only been through two owners and get this: it’s completely stock. No blower, no upgraded exhaust, no cold air intake; this car is just as it left the Saleen factory in March of 1988. It’s even got the original tires, although I’m not sure I’d want to drive very far (or particularly fast) on them.

Coke Bottle Charger

The Dodge Chargers built from 1968-1970 are considered to be some of the most beautiful cars ever to come out of Detroit. They’re muscular, aggressive and with that classic coke bottle shape draw crowds where ever they go. Artist Steve Stanley created this amazing one-off 1969 Dodge Charger in an attempt to pay homage to what is considered, the one true American soft drink. Coca-Cola has always used art to express their visions of what true Americana is. Artists like Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell and Haddon Sundblom have all created works using the soft drink as a basis for some of their pieces.

Super Sleeper: 1979 Chevrolet Malibu w/LS1 V8

There are times in a car enthusiasts life when the thought of owning a sleeper car becomes an appealing thing. Take this granny-tastic 1979 Chevrolet Malibu for example. It’s got all the right components to take the unsuspecting eye on a slow ride to sleepy town. Beige paint – check, 15-inch wire wheel covers – check, half-vinyl top… DOUBLE CHECK! Ordinarily a car like this would never even trip the radar, however this little dandy is packing a secret that would throw off even the most well trained eye. You see it’s packing a 400 hp LS1 V8 out of a 2005-2006 Pontiac GTO, which makes this car AWESOME!

Think All Tuned German Cars Are Cool?

Posted in Bizarre, Car Buying, eBay Motors, FAIL, Pontiac, Used Cars by Kurt Ernst | December 12th, 2010 | 1 Response |

Here’s one hand built German tuner car, currently for sale on eBay Germany, that has me saying, “nein, danke”. The car, which started its life as a 1986 Pontiac Fiero, has been transformed into the lowliest of shadetree mechanic creations, the Fierorarri. The current owner has swapped the I4 for a V6, then “enhanced” the cooling of the car using what appears to be A/C ducting. He’s also enhanced the looks of the car with a genuine simulated Testarossa back end and sidevents. Rounding out the whole-lotta-ugly is the custom built rear decklid, raised, presumably, to cover the car’s V6 engine.
