Winter Driving: Are You Ready?

Posted in Crash Testing, Crashes, driving, Funny, Funny Videos, Tips, Tires, Videos by MrAngry | November 24th, 2010 | 3 Responses |

Here in the Northeast we get our fair share of snow and ice during the winter months. To be honest it totally sucks, but unfortunately we have no power against Mother Nature. Some days she’s good to us and others she’s just down right pissed off. When she’s feeling crampy, us North Easterner’s know that it’s best to simply stay inside and let her take care of business. There’s always a few poor bastards though that caught out in the cold and when that happens all bets are off. Driving in snow is generally not too difficult as long as you have either 4WD or AWD, or a car with a good set of snow tires. Ice though, that’s another story entirely. Take the above video for example. The road has a light layer of snow covering an otherwise icy surface. In conditions like this it makes no difference what tires you’re running, as nothing is going to stop on ice. If you encounter this type of surface, it’s best to simply park your vehicle (preferably away from traffic), lock that sucker up and come back to get it later. I mean you don’t have to, but then you may wind up like these guys.

This is one tough Nissan Altima!

I always knew that Nissan’s were tough but this is ridiculous. The above video shows a very aggressive driver tail-grabbing the car in front of him during a race. The driver becomes so aggressive that he pits his competitor into the wall and in the process loses control of his vehicle, thus catching the dirt and flipping the thing ass-over tea kettle. What’s even more astonishing than this though, is that the driver doesn’t even blink an eye. Instead he adjusts his mirror and proceeds to drive the battered and beaten Altima back into the pits. Honestly, I give this guy full credit for not flinching during his roll-over, but in the end he gets a hat load of ass for pulling that BS move and taking not only himself, but a competitor out.

2011 Honda Accord

It may not be the best looking, the most exciting or the best performer. What the new 2011 Honda Accord is though, is the safest 4-door sedan on the market according to a revised U.S. crash test rating performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Honda should be beaming about this since they beat out the likes of import rivals Hyundai and Toyota. According to Autonews.com, the 2011 Honda Accord was the first car to get a five star rating in each of the 3 crash test categories that are deemed necessary by the NHTSA – frontal crashes, side impact and rollovers.

Texting While Driving… DON’T DO IT!

Texting While Driving

Ever drive down the highway and come across what looks to be a terrible accident. I know I have and in most cases they’re not as bad as you may have originally thought. As I was surfing around the net the other day I came across these astonishing photos on DodgeCharger.com of a Chevrolet Suburban that had a pretty wicked meeting with a guard rail in what is believed to be Washington State. There is not too much information on exactly what happened here except to say that the driver was believed to have been texting when the incident occurred. What’s more amazing is that no one was killed. Thankfully there was only a driver in the vehicle and no passengers.

2010 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan

A 2010 CTS-V sedan.

Do you own a 2009 or 2010 Cadillac CTS with AWD? How about a 2009 – 2010 CTS-V (you lucky bastard)? If you answered yes, expect to hear from Cadillac in the very near future, as your car may not meet federal safety standards for occupant crash protection.

Hot Rod Presents: Corvette HACK!

Power to weight ratio. It’s one of the most important factors taken into consideration when trying to get any type of motor vehicle to move quickly. More power + less weight = more speed, it’s that simple. Hot Rod Magazine set forth to illustrate just how this can be accomplished with an old 1985 Chevrolet Corvette and a few good laps at a local speedway. Now granted their methods are little bit extreme, but hey, what better way to show quick and dirty weight loss than with an old beat up Vette’ and a Sawzall. Little by little as weight was extracted the Corvettes lap times got faster and faster, however there is something to be said for how and where the weight is removed from the car. Click play to see what I’m talking about.

2011 Ford Fiesta

I was impressed with the 2011 Ford Fiesta the very first time I drove one, and I can’t wait to get a press fleet Fiesta for evaluation. In case you wanted more than just my thumbs up on the 2011 Fiesta, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just awarded the Fiesta its “Top Safety Pick” award. The Fiesta becomes the first minicar to earn the coveted award, which requires superior performance in frontal crash testing, side impact crash testing and rollover testing. Cars earning the “Top Safety Pick” award must have electronic stability control as a standard feature.

Saudi interstate drifting ends badly.

Posted in Crash Testing, Crashes, Drifting, driving, Videos by MrAngry | August 24th, 2010 | 2 Responses |

I find it incomprehensible how people can go out on the open road and do stunts like this. For some reason drifting in Saudi Arabia consists of individuals slinging cars around on open interstates, something that can only end in disaster. The above video shows a drifter losing control of his car and clipping the rear end of a tractor trailer causing the car to literally explode apart on impact. The disintegration of the car tells me that it was probably some Chinese made sh*tbox, but either way one can see what happens when this type of exhibitionism is performed on public roads. By the looks of the video one can only assume that if there was someone in the back seat, they are now dead. As for the driver, he probably just wishes he was dead… schmuck.

The NHTSA is finally starting to release details that would clarify the cause behind “unintended acceleration” of Toyota vehicles. In a briefing before Congress, NHTSA officials presented data on 58 crashes involving Toyota vehicles, where owners claimed sudden, unintended acceleration. Here’s the breakdown by case:

Nothing good can come of this…

Whenever you see someone post anything that has to do with a big truck, crane or anything that weighs over 20 tons and it’s in the air, you can almost guarantee that something bad is going to happen. Take this crane on crane action for example. Right from the get-go you can tell that the crane that was actually doing the hoisting was straining under the load and to top it off there was a worker holding a rope that actually seemed to be making the weight distribution uneven. In all honesty I have no idea if his actions made any difference, but from this standpoint, it sure looks like it did.
