Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but Chevy opted to release pricing on the 2012 Camaro ZL1 on the very same day that Ford announced its new, 650 horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500. In 2014, Chevy replaces the C6 Corvette with the C7 Corvette, and internet rumors have hinted that the new car will sport a mid-engine, rear-drive V-6 powertrain. Next, it was that the new Corvette would swap the current 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 for a 5.5-liter V-8, at least on base models. Then came word that the car would get a visibility-hampering split rear window, in homage to the 1963 to 1967 Corvettes. Read More…

The year is rapidly drawing to a close, and Chevy is nowhere near the 10,000 unit sales of its extended-range EV, the Volt, that the automaker had projected. Through October, Chevy had sold just over 5,000 Volts year-to-date, nowhere near on-track for the 10k sales that GM CEO Dan Akerson had projected. Read More…

The world needs more twisted geniuses like Jonathan Ward. His company, Icon, is best known for building restored and bulletproof Toyota Land Cruisers and Jeep CJs, but it also dabbles in the fine art of what Ward calls “derelicts.” The concept is simple: take an original but worn car, then throw the best parts you can at the chassis, motor and even interior. Costco is a great place to shop for stuff like food and wine, and the warehouse club occasionally has good deals on stuff of interest to gear heads. You can’t beat their prices for bulk shop towels and microfiber cloths, and they generally have decent pricing on Mobil 1 motor oil. I bought a “disposable” hydraulic jack there about 20 years ago, and it’s still going strong (even if it does weigh more than the center of the earth). Read More…

A Skydiving, Bungee Jumping… Chevy Sonic?

The fastest Chevy Sonic on the planet...

Call us Neanderthals, but we have no idea how dropping a new car out of a plane, or pushing it off a stack of shipping containers, helps sell cars. It’s the whole “adventure sports, Gen Y” angle that Chevy is going for, we suppose, so that means it doesn’t have to make sense as long as it’s cool to watch. The Sonic dropped from the airplane is surprisingly mesmerizing, and you can’t help but wonder what it would feel like to get hit by a car in free fall. Read More…
