Super Speeders 6

It’s hard to believe I know, but I’ve been known to fracture an occasional traffic law from time to time. I’m not talking of course about anything serious mind you, but sometimes the 55 mph limit just doesn’t work for me. Yes I know there’s a time and a place for hoonigan antics, but sometimes, just sometimes, one has to break their own rules. Rob Ferretti is the creator of “Super Speeders“, a video series that does everything in cars that 99.9% of the population would probably do if they could get away with it. “Flat Out” is their newest trailer for “Super Speeders 6“, and when I tell you it looks like a genuine automotive thrill ride, I’m not lying. Click through for the video and see for yourself.

Off Road Photography

I have yet to find out the reasons why WRC and off-road desert racing fans feel the need to put their lives at risk every time they view an event. I mean I understand wanting to be close to the action, but getting in the middle of it just to get a great picture… well, that’s a death wish as far as I’m concerned. It’s no secret that motorsports fans are some of the most devoted of any sports genre, however when that devotion puts not only yourself, but the actual participants at risk, then there is something seriously wrong. The fan you are about to see no doubt feels as though he is doing the right thing by jumping in front of speeding off-road buggies for media purposes, but in reality he’s just moments away from causing a catastrophic accident. In fact if there was an award for the dumbest move in motorsports I think this guy would be a shoe-in.

The Sounds of “Drive”

DRIVE

Ronin, Bullit, The Road Warrior and hell, even the Dukes of Hazzard all have one thing in common; the car chase. As enthusiasts we love to see them, hear them and then, when the moment arises, pick them apart. Movie directors and sound editors go through great lengths to make sure that our experience is as close to the real thing as they can make it. However there are those who deem to take a slightly different approach. Drive, starring Ryan Gosling recently hit theaters, and although the film is packed with tire roasting action, supervising sound editor Lon Bender decided to take a slightly different approach when it came to bringing the films 4-wheels stars to life. Although primarily character driven, the way in which Drive uses sound is something that is vastly different from what we’ve seen in the past. Click through to see what I’m talking about.

Semi Tractor Jump

Birds, airplanes and the occasional man shot from a cannon… these are things that were meant to fly. Full-blown semi-tractors though… not so much. Thankfully though us Ridelust guys live in America, a country where man is free to jump anything on wheels off a ramp as long as there is a county fair around. I’ve seen folks jump buses, bar stools and even a porta-potti once, but this semi jump takes the cake. What you are about to see is a truck known as the CRUSHER as it attempts to set a record for the longest tractor jump in history. Is it pretty? No. Is it graceful? Hell no. Is it awesome to watch? Oh f*ck yeah!!! So click through and prepare for 25 tons of high-flying action.

Gymkhana 0.2 : No Budget? No Problem!

Gymkhana 0.2

A few years ago Ken Block burst onto the scene with his first gymkhana video. Since then there have been loads of imitators who have tried to upstage the DC Shoe mastermind. Unfortunately for them though an unlimited budget, access to some of the best camera men in the business and a fully sponsored rally car has stood in their way. That is… until now. This is Gymkhana 0.2 and to say it was done on the cheap would be an understatement. The car is worth about $6.00, the camera car about $12.00 and the props, paint and talent about $32.50. This means that for the grand total of a relatively expensive dinner for one, you too can now go out and shoot your very own Ken Block look-a-like video. The kicker here though is that it’s just as entertaining to watch as the original.

Formula Drift: In a Semi Truck?

Mike Ryan Drift Semi

Birds are not supposed to swim, people are not supposed to fly and semi-trucks are not supposed to drift. These are just some of the constants that keep the universe in check. However there are always those who say, “TO HELL” with what the universe says and then go out and do their own thing. Mike Ryan is one of those people and his chariot of choice is a 10,000 pound purpose built semi-truck. Recently Mike was invited to round 6 of the Formula Drift Championship where he spent some time getting coached by 2 time Drift Champion and pro-racer, Samuel Hübinette. The purpose of this meeting was to give Mike a little practice time for his upcoming exhibition run for the fans. Click through and watch how Stuntman Mike gives the universe the middle-finger while at the same time creating for us one of the coolest smoke shows imaginable.

Jeep Wheelie

I don’t know what’s cooler. The fact that this little Jeep can pull awesome one-bounce wheelies, or the fact that it does it without the use of a wheelie-bar. Seriously, this sucker must be an absolute hoot at stop lights and car gatherings… I want one, BAD!

Driver: San Francisco – Part II

Driver

We recently brought you a little snippet about Ubisoft Reflections Studios new high octane thrill ride, “Driver: San Francisco”, that’s due out in September. The games seeks to offer not only cutting edge graphics and a stellar physics engine, but the option of shifting from one car to another at a moments notice to foster further game play. What caught my eye though were the amazing power-slides and the oodles and oodles of tire smoke that one is able to create at a moments notice. This my friends is simply bad-ass. Combine that with the fact that one can get a 1969 Dodge Charger, a late 80′s IROC Camaro and a 1977 Trans Am and well, I’m sold before this sucker even hits the shelves. You’re Doing it Wrong: Car Jump Fail

Car Jump Fail

Math… it’s my nemesis and something that I wholeheartedly loathe. I hated it when I was a kid, and I hate it even more now as an adult. Simply put, I’m just not wired properly for numbers and the thought of dealing with them just freaks me out. There are however times when all those little digits can come in quite handy. Stunt men for instance use math on a daily basis to figure out how to properly execute safe stunts for our enjoyment. They calculate things like distance, rate of speed and ramp slope. Get these calculations right and things usually go off without a hitch, screw them up though and well, things can go south very quickly. The following video shows what happens when you throw caution to the wind and simply go for broke.

Game Watch: Driver San Francisco

Driver: San Francisco

Back in 1999 a game came out for the original Sony Playstation called “Driver” by Reflection Studios. It took place in San Francisco and put you behind the wheel of a high horsepower muscle car with your job being to out run the police at every turn. Back then the graphics were a bit crude, but the physics engine used was actually pretty damn good. Fast forward now 12 years and 3 generations of console games later and there is a new version of the game called “Driver San Francisco” that’s due out September 1st 2011. The game includes cars that run from a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am to a 2010 McLaren MP4-12C and promises to be one of the highlights of the 2011 gaming year. If Ubisoft Reflections Studios can capture the original essence of the game, while at the same time upping the ante’, well then, we’re going to have one helluva game on our hands come September.
