Jamie Robinson RideApart

“You don’t have to spend a million bucks to fulfill your dreams. I bought a bike for $300, got it running and entered it in a race I’d always dreampt about.

Bonneville is an epic thing that brings out all kinds of speed contraptions and it was an honor to ride an old 1986 Honda VFR750 in the Run-Whatcha-Brung class and pretend to be like my childhood heroes.

If I can do it, anyone can.” — Jamie Robinson

Posted in Best of, Crashes, General, Hoonage, Motorcycle, Racing, Videos by MrAngry | August 2nd, 2012 | 2 Responses |

Rally West Virginia

Riding a motorcycle teaches you many things. It teaches you to be cautious, have great reaction time and above all, it teaches you to be calm under pressure. During an event called the “Rally West Virginia” a participant who was riding slammed into a deer head-on. Now while this would cause even the most hardened rider to stop and take a breath, for this rider it seemed to be just another day in the park. Check it out!

Suzuki GSX-R 1000

Motorcycle and auto manufacturers alike love to tout about how much technology is stuffed into their vehicles. They talk about safety features, electronics and all the things that take any kind of responsibility away from motoring. In short, they’re killing the experience of unbridled performance which in turn, kills much of the fun. Former 500 Motor GP winner Simon Crafar talks about his distaste for this technology and how for some, old school is the way to go.

“Take the power, take the control, take the responsibility” – Simon Crafar

Switch Riders

Back in the late 1990′s motorcyclists took stunt riding to an entirely new level. The tricks became more complex, the risks greater, and the caliber of rider was boosted like never before. Custom bikes were tailored to an individual riders needs and were outfitted with things like crash cages, specially modified tanks and reenforced frames that helped riders achieve tricks never before seen. French freestyle team Switch Riders has now combined the sport of motorcycle stunt riding with the automotive discipline of gymkhana to bring us a two-wheeled ballet that’s simply off the charts. The riders are amazing, the tricks unreal, and the level of skill is astounding. Click through and check it out.

DRIVE: Touring with the KTM 990 and Yamaha Super Ténéré

Ride Apart

The KTM 990 and the Yamaha Super Ténéré could best be categorized as enduro-style motorcycles. That means while their home is on the tarmac, they do offer some off-roading capabilities. Think of them as the Swiss Army knives of the two-wheeled world. Ride Apart is a new show on Youtube’s DRIVE Network, and in their first episode they’re focusing on two of the best enduro motorcycles that are currently offered for sale. Granted these babies aren’t as nimble as a little 250 cc dirt bike, but if there was a zombie apocalypse coming I’d much rather be on one of these.

Two Wheel Terrors: Street Chopper

Two Wheeled Terrors

I wouldn’t exactly call these two wheeled terrors in as much as I’d say they were just a bunch of motor-heads having a great time. All the right elements are there including fast bikes, hot chicks and some good old fashion hooliganism. Now granted they may be going to the extreme in some respects, but let’s face it – we’ve all seen worse. Either way though it’s a cool video, so click through and enjoy.

Mule Motorcycles

The old adage of “do what you love and you’ll never work another day again”, is actually quite true. I mean think about that for a moment. If you’re able to take whatever it is that makes you happy and turn it into a full-on job, then in essence you’re really getting paid to enjoy yourself on a daily basis. In reality few people get to do this, however there are those who have found a way. This is Richard Pollock, owner of Mule Motorcycles in Poway, CA. He’s not only one of the most talented builders out there, but he’s living the dream by way of envisioning, creating and selling his two-wheeled visions. His bikes have an old school feel to them as Pollack grew up in Southern California around dirt tracks and scramble style motorbikes. Each one is unique and is built around the individual owners tastes. They’re beautiful, functional and at days end, all works of two-wheeled art. Click through for the video and enjoy.

The Smoking Tire Reviews The BMW F800R

Posted in BMW, Motorcycle, Motorcycle Review, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 13th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Motorcycle reviews are something fairly new to The Smoking Tire, but our pal Matt has a lengthy history on two wheels. Like the esteemed Mr. Farah, I once relied on motorcycles as primary transportation, and I can echo his sentiments; living in Colorado, where it can and will snow from September through April, bikes are a poor choice as a daily driver. If you’re lucky enough to have the budget for a bike as a weekend toy, the tough decision becomes which style, then which model, to pick. Read More…
