EVO Car of the Year 2012

Porsche vs Lotus, Toyota vs Morgan, BMW vs Porsche as well as a host of other great automobiles battle it out for the EVO Car of the Year 2012. Now while all of these battles are excellent the ones you really want to focus on are the Toyota GT86 vs the Morgan 3-Wheeler, and the McLaren 12c vs the Pagani Huayra. Sure the others are fun, but bang for the buck, these four automobiles should leave you coming away speechless.

2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In Advanced

Thumbs Up: If you want fuel economy and range, this is your car.

Thumbs Down: Nothing here for driving enthusiasts, cheap interior.

Buy This Car If: You care more about spending as little as possible on gas than you do about performance or handling.

This may come as a shock to driving enthusiasts, but the cold, hard truth is this: most people don’t like to drive. For the masses, driving is an act to be tolerated, not enjoyed, and any conveyance that gets them from point A to point B with as little fuss and expense as possible is optimal. Read More…

2013 Infiniti M37: RideLust Review

2013 Infiniti M37

Thumbs Up: Nimble, still relatively quick with the V-6

Thumbs Down: Optioned-out, price grows quickly

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for a sportier take on a Japanese luxury sedan

Japanese premium brand Infiniti built its business in the United States market by delivering luxury cars that still had a performance edge. If you wanted the best ride comfort, Lexus was more up your alley; if you wanted reasonable comfort with a generous side order of handling, Infiniti was where you shopped. Read More…

2013 Lexus ES 300h

Thumbs Up: Perhaps the best long-distance commuter car on the planet, for now.

Thumbs Down: Not much here for driving enthusiasts.

Buy This Car If: Your idea of an easy commute is 100 miles round-trip.

When it comes to luxury, few manufacturers understand how to coddle buyers in its cars and showrooms quite as well as Lexus. Its build quality is beyond reproach, its cars are ever-increasingly stylish and its dealers treat customers like extended family members; in short, we’d have a hard time naming an automaker that works harder to be atop the luxury pile than Lexus. 2013 Infiniti G37s Sedan: Ridelust Review

2013 Infiniti G37 Journey Sedan

PRO’s: Great power, not regulated by electronic nannies, a lot of fun in a very nice wrapper.

CON’s: Dated styling, narrow interior, needs more rubber.

FINAL THOUGHT: A competent sports sedan, that albiet looking a bit dated, provides its owner with decent luxury, performance and a driving experience that’s still lets the owner behave like a child when the mood strikes.

The Infiniti G-Series has been around in the United States for over 20 years. Beginning with the G20 back in 1990, the goal was to introduce Nissan’s then new luxury brand into the U.S. market. Their strategy worked because now 22 years after the sedans initial launch the G-Series is still going strong and is currently rolling through its six-generation. The sports sedan in the United States is not a vehicle to be taken lightly as competition comes from all sides. Manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Audi and Lexus are all fighting for the crown, which means each company does their damnedest to outdo the other guy. So, how does the 2013 Infiniti G37s Sedan stack up against the other guys? Click through to find out.

2013 Infiniti JX35 FWD: RideLust Review

2013 Infiniti JX35

Thumbs Up: Hauls seven passengers in comfort

Thumbs Down: Handling not up to Infiniti’s usual standards, CVT is the only gearbox option

Buy This Car If: Comfort and capacity outweigh your need for speed.

The Infiniti brand earned its stripes by building cars that blended performance and luxury, usually for thousands of dollars less than its German rivals. The Infiniti G37 sedan remains one of our favorite sport sedans, especially when price factors into the equation, and the same thing can be said for Infiniti’s FX crossover. While the styling may not appeal to everyone, the FX delivers a surprisingly entertaining ride, and we’d easily take it over the rival Lexus RX. Read More…

2012 Toyota Prius C

PRO’s: Great mileage / economy, nicely styled.

CON’s: Simply adequate power, performance and handling.

FINAL THOUGHT: A decent hybrid that you’ll enjoy as long as you’re not a rabid automobile enthusiast.

Believe it or not but the Toyota Prius has been around for 15 long years. It debuted in Japan in 1997 and since that time it’s been the go-to hybrid for those looking to be a bit more environmentally friendly. Now by this time we know all the cars in the Prius family get good fuel economy, but the real question is – are they any good to drive? I was recently given a 2012 Toyota Prius C, the baby of the Prius family and although yes, the mileage is great, the car itself is simply “OK” in my opinion.

2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV: RideLust Review

Posted in Car Reviews, Featured, Import Review, Nissan, RideLust Review by Kurt Ernst | October 22nd, 2012 | 3 Responses |

2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV

Thumbs Up: More stylish and more comfortable than the car it replaces

Thumbs Down: Only gearbox choice is a CVT

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for a fuel-sipping commuter that still looks good

Nissan’s midsize Altima sedan is perpetually among the best-selling cars in the United States, and with good reason. Even in its prior form, it served up a reasonable blend of style, comfort, fuel economy and value, putting it near the top of the “must shop” list for many consumers. With that much in its favor, you can bet that Nissan was careful when it set about redesigning the Altima for the 2013 model year. Read More…

2013 Lexus GS350 F Sport: Ridelust Review

2013 Lexus GS350 F Sport

PRO’s: Great brakes, superb interior, handling and a media center that is one of the best in the business.

CON’s: High price, could use a bit more grunt.

FINAL THOUGHT: A fantastic automobile that proves Lexus is committed to building one of the best premium sports sedans money can buy.

If you were to open my garage you’d end up with two old muscle cars, a new pony car and a 20-year old station wagon that I use as a daily driver. None of these machines contain leather interiors, sunroofs, air conditioned seats or navigation, as they were all bought (and built) to serve a specific purpose. I tell you this because all my vehicles are bare bones and no frills, which is somewhat similar to how I live my life.

2013 Scion FR-S: Ridelust Review

2013 Scion FR-S

PRO’s: Nice transmission, good brakes, great handling manners

CON’s: Harsh ride, somewhat cramped interior, needs more power

FINAL THOUGHT: This is the perfect vehicle for the first time sports car buyer regardless of age. It provides decent power and great handling with enough forgiveness that it will only help one advance as a driver.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that this is probably not the first review of the 2013 Scion FR-S that you’ve read. However since every automotive journalist out there is different, I felt the need to say “screw it” and throw my hat in the ring. The Scion FR-S and sibling Subaru BRZ, have done a wonderful thing in 2013. You see they’ve injected some much needed life into an automotive segment that was all but dead here in the United States. For years, if you wanted a small, inexpensive, front-engined rear-drive sports car you had but one option, the Mazda Miata. It’s a great little car no doubt, but let’s face it, after 23 years on the market it’s starting to show its age. Therefore when rumblings of these two little guys started surfacing a few years ago, the enthusiast crowd immediately stood up and took notice.
