Audi R8 Spyder vs Porsche Boxster Spyder

They’re both handsome, fast and serious performers. The Porsche Boxster Spyder and Audi R8 Spyder are no strangers when it comes to putting down the goods on the race track. However when initially comparing the two, you may think that this battle is a bit unfair. You see the Audi costs over $130,000, where the Porsche stickers in at just over $60,000. The Audi also makes more power, is larger and let’s face it, is quite a bit better looking. However the thing about Porsche’s is that they make some of the best cars the world has seen and because of this you never can count them out of a fight. EVO Magazine recently pitted these two open-air speed machines in a head-to-head battle, the results of which may just surprise you.

2012 Fiat 500 Sport

Thumbs Up: Go-kart-like low speed handling.

Thumbs Down: Needs more power.

Buy This Car If: You want a frugal commuter that’s still fun to drive.

Fiat exited the U.S. market in 1984, a victim of declining market share caused by both the Japanese brands and the changing habits of the American consumer. After decades of offering affordable-yet-entertaining Italian cars like the X/19 and the Fiat 124 Spider, the quirky Italian automaker’s absence was noted primarily by devotees of the brand. American consumers instead bought trucks and SUVs, or dependable-but-bland econoboxes from Japanese automakers. Read More…

The Countach: The Raunchiest Lamborghini Ever

Posted in Car Reviews, European, European Review, European Rides, Featured, General, Lamborghini, Rides by MrAngry | December 24th, 2011 | 4 Responses |

Lamborghini Countach

If there was one car out there that could have the distinction of being the worlds first automotive porn star, then the Lamborghini Countach would be it. If you were a kid growing up in the 1980′s then the Countach was what you dreamed about at night. It was bold, sexy and at days end, had just the right amount of raunchiness to make you think impure thoughts. Originally developed during the disco era, the Countach didn’t really come into its own until the mid-80′s when cocaine and high end porn were in style. It was ungodly fast for its day, completely devoid of creature comforts and would definitely kill you if given the chance. Simply put, it was wonderful. Time however has not been overly kind to the Countach though. Sure it still looks good, but where cars like the Lamborghini Muira will always be elegant and proud, the Countach comes across like the old chain wearing bald guy at the end of the bar.

For some of us, myself included, the Countach will always be the definition of what I think of as a supercar. For some reason though I think I’d be hesitant to meet it in person, as some things need to be left up on your childhood wall.

Click through for the video and enjoy.

2012 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design: RideLust Review

2012 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design

Thumbs Up: The sexiest Volvo ever, with performance to match.

Thumbs Down: No six-speed manual, busy center stack controls.

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for an Audi A4 or BMW 335iX alternative.

I’ve never been a Volvo guy. Maybe it was their conservative, boxy-but-safe styling, or their Swedish sensibility, or their focus on safety above all else. Even the legendary Volvo turbo wagons failed to impress me; sure, they were the fastest station wagons you could buy, but that was like saying the Big Mac is the most sophisticated culinary masterpiece on the McDonald’s menu. Volvos, at least in my eyes, were the cars you bought when you really wanted something else, but needed a safe family sedan or station wagon. Read More…

The Smoking Tire Flogs BMW’s 1 Series M

Posted in BMW, Car Reviews, Cool Stuff, European Review, Videos by Kurt Ernst | November 1st, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

There’s plenty to like about the new BMW 1 Series M, including 335 horsepower in a 3,300 pound coupe with an M suspension and M brakes. There’s also something not to like about it, and that’s the fact that production has all but sold out, with the remaining cars being offered by dealers for bend-over-grab-your-ankles-and-squeal-like-a-pig prices. BMW set out to create an affordable car for young enthusiasts, but instead created a pricey toy for the affluent or a museum piece for speculators who believe the car’s $50k asking price will go nowhere but up. The Hungarians Show Us How To Review The New BMW M5

The problem with most car reviews these days is that they’re filmed on public roads, where the type of behavior that gets a video hits will also get your license suspended. Even on the rare occasion when manufacturers bring their latest wares to a racetrack for some spirited driving, journos are generally told to preserve the tires and brakes; in other words, long, lurid burnouts and smoky drifts through corners are discouraged, as is lapping at anything near a car’s limits of handling. A Smoking Tire Classic: Matt Reviews The Mk VI VW GTI

Posted in Car Buying, Car Reviews, European Review, Favorite Cars, Videos, Volkswagen by Kurt Ernst | October 14th, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

The Mark VI Volkswagen GTI was released in 2010, and the car upped the ante for Volkswagen’s entry into the hot hatchback class. Sure, cars like the Subaru WRX and the Mazdaspeed 3 were “faster,” but the GTI brought a level of sophistication with it that the others lacked. If going fast is your only concern, then either the Subie or the Mazda are better choices; if you live in the real world, where occasional track days are punctuated with daily commuting, then the GTI really starts to shine. EVO Magazine: Lamborghini Aventador Review

Posted in Car Reviews, Educational, European, European Review, European Rides, General, Lamborghini, Rides, Videos by MrAngry | October 5th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Lamborghini Aventador

It doesn’t share any parts with any of its siblings. It’s powered by a 700 bhp naturally aspirated V12, and it’s one of the most technologically advanced road cars ever built. The Lamborghini Aventador was not built to be just another super car, but moreover, it was built to redefine what the super car is. With major competition from the likes of the Ferrari 599 Fiorano, McLaren’s MP4-12C and the Lexus LF-A, Lamborghini had no choice but to pull out all the stops for their newest bull. Where the Murciélago overcame any deficiencies it may have had with brute force, the Aventador employs technology to aid their owners in the driving experience. EVO Magazine recently had a chance to flog the new Lambo at the Vallelunga Circuit in Italy and came away with a much different opinion of what a V12 Lamborghini can now do on a racetrack.

2012 Audi A7 Sedan: RideLust Review

2012 Audi A7

Thumbs Up: Good looks and practicality

Thumbs Down: No diesel version In US

Buy This Car If: You can afford the price of admission

The 2012 Audi A7 may be the Swiss Army Knife of luxury sedans. It’s speed and handling definitely put it in the “sport sedan” column, its quattro AWD gives it all-weather confidence and it’s cavernous hatchback makes it nearly as versatile as an SUV or crossover. It’s drop-dead gorgeous, too, especially when you view it from the rear three-quarter perspective. Read More…
