Porsche Car Chase

I find it amazing that in this day and age car chases still exist. I mean why do criminals still think they can get away? Between police radios, pedestrian cell phones, other drivers and helicopters it’s actually almost impossible to do anything wrong which is why I was so surprised that this guy actually had this stolen Porsche in his possession for 3 weeks before getting caught. What’s even more impressive than that though is just how durable this Boxster actually was. I mean seriously – this little drop top took one hit after another and just kept on going which is pretty impressive if you ask me. So let this video be a lesson for all those would-be car thieves out there; if you are going to steal a car, make sure you do it right and steal a Porsche.

Driver

We recently brought you a little snippet about Ubisoft Reflections Studios new high octane thrill ride, “Driver: San Francisco”, that’s due out in September. The games seeks to offer not only cutting edge graphics and a stellar physics engine, but the option of shifting from one car to another at a moments notice to foster further game play. What caught my eye though were the amazing power-slides and the oodles and oodles of tire smoke that one is able to create at a moments notice. This my friends is simply bad-ass. Combine that with the fact that one can get a 1969 Dodge Charger, a late 80′s IROC Camaro and a 1977 Trans Am and well, I’m sold before this sucker even hits the shelves. If Only Moses Had a Russian Bus

Russian Bus Attacks Flood

Come hell or high water this bus looked to be on a mission to make it to its next stop. Thankfully though hell wasn’t on the menu and the bus made it through the flooded section of highway it decided to traverse. However, this was not before it submerged some poor woman and her car as its wake engulfed them as they went by. I applaud the bus driver for having the stones to attempt a stunt like this, but I can’t help but feel bad for this woman as her dry cleaning and repair bills are going to be off the charts.

Driver: San Francisco

Back in 1999 a game came out for the original Sony Playstation called “Driver” by Reflection Studios. It took place in San Francisco and put you behind the wheel of a high horsepower muscle car with your job being to out run the police at every turn. Back then the graphics were a bit crude, but the physics engine used was actually pretty damn good. Fast forward now 12 years and 3 generations of console games later and there is a new version of the game called “Driver San Francisco” that’s due out September 1st 2011. The game includes cars that run from a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am to a 2010 McLaren MP4-12C and promises to be one of the highlights of the 2011 gaming year. If Ubisoft Reflections Studios can capture the original essence of the game, while at the same time upping the ante’, well then, we’re going to have one helluva game on our hands come September.

1934 Ford Roadster

As this 1934 Ford coupe demonstrates, there is just nothing wrong with a little hoonage from time to time. This particular car was having a bit of fun at a little event in New York state called the “Hardcore Happening”. Packing a all-aluminum 427 big block and putting power to the pavement via a 4-speed manual transmission, the owner of this white-walled wonder is simply not afraid to get down and dirty. This ladies and gentlemen is pure tire smoking awesomeness! Click through for the video.

Twelve Dolls: Mockba

Thirty-two years ago a low budget Australian film called Mad Max hit theaters and became an instant cult classic. It was the story of Max, a post-apocalyptic law man whose job was to rid the deserted highways of fuel stealing murders and bandits. His patrol car dubbed, the Last Interceptor was a 600 hp 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe that was modified with a massive Weiand blower, custom zoomies and a wicked front end. The movies opening scene contains one of the best car chases in all of movie history and features two 1974 Ford Falcons and a hopped up 1972 Holden Monaro. Over the years this chase scene has been recreated, picked apart and duplicated in everything from TV commercials to music videos and rightly so as it truly is amazing to watch. The following video is a compilation of the Twelve Dolls song Mockba, set to the opening scene of Mad Max. It’s raw, gritty and flat out awesome…

An Homage To Miami Vice, Starring A ’68 Charger

Back in the 1980’s, “Miami Vice” was the coolest show on television. Its cinematography was cutting-edge, and the series often centered on controversial subject matter. The show also licensed a lot of pop music from the era, which only added to the cool factor – instead of elevator music playing in the background, you got contemporary pop songs, many of which were intertwined into the show. In a lot of ways, Miami Vice was like an hour long music video. Sure, the acting was amateurish, but the stars of the show drove a Ferrari Daytona (a replica, actually) before switching to a Ferrari Testarossa. Read More…

The Greatest Automotive Characters Of All Time

Automotive Hero's

Last week I poised the question: Who is your favorite fictional automotive hero? Surprisingly we got inundated with emails and the suggestions were so damn good that I decided to put a little list together. Some of the suggestions were pretty off beat, but what I realized was that there was a whole host of characters for whom I had totally overlooked. These characters got our adrenaline flowing, made us laugh, cringe and cheer. They also range in status from a fictional Nascar legend to a drugged out journalist who was hell bent on killing convertibles. However you look at it though, this list is a compilation of the best and baddest fictional automotive nuts that ever set foot on the silver screen.

Motorcyclist Almost Killed by Road Rage Driver

Road Rage

As someone who used to use a motorcycle as his daily form of transportation I can safely say that the following video was one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen. This video was taken in Kentucky as two sport bike riders were running down one of their favorite twisty roads. Upon seeing a slow moving pickup truck in front of them the first rider goes to pass and with that all hell breaks loose as the driver of the truck tries to run him off the road. Now keep in mind that the rider did pass over a double yellow line, and illegal move in any state, but that in no way, shape or form gives the truck driver the right to try an commit vehicular manslaughter. The next seven minutes of footage show the motorcyclist literally running for his life as he tries to get away from the crazed driver who is trying to run him down. Keep in mind that there is some NSFW language here, but if that doesn’t offend you then click through, because this is one of the most shocking videos I’ve ever seen.

Wagen Works

It’s true… I’m a sucker for well shot car videos and I’m completely envious of the talent that it takes to create them. I’ve been taking photos and videos of cars for years, however my skills rank right up there with the best of them from the kindergarten class at P.S. 131 here in Queens, NY. It’s a shame as I really do try, but alas, I’m a much better driver then I am a photographer, so I suppose I’ll just stick with that. Shot by the VW and Audi guys over at Wagenwerks in Virginia, the following video is their Spring 2011 ShowReel. They’ve got everything from racing footage, to high speed desert rallying, to some outstanding still shots that should, unless you’re dead, get you all ramped up and ready to roll for this years car season. Click through and enjoy.
