You Should Have to Pedal Bicycles, Dammit

Posted in Bizarre, Café Racers, Paris Auto Show, Peugeot by Dustin Driver | October 10th, 2010 | 1 Response |

Bicycles are human powered. They don’t have motors. And they certainly don’t have on-board computer systems. They are the perfect amalgam of man and machine. So you, engineer at Peugeot, and you, SolidWorks whiz at ebike: Stop. Peugeot’s electric-assist bicycle reared its bull-horn-shaped grips at the Paris Auto Show, sporting a hub-less wheel. Electric scooter manufacturers smart also unveiled its ebike, which has an iPhone dock. Seriously. Enough is enough. Few things rival the simple joy of riding a bicycle. Don’t make it any more complicated than it has to be. Hit the jump for more photos.

Too Fast For Your Own Good: A Tribute To The Factory Turbo Bikes Of The 1980s

Posted in Café Racers, Cool Stuff, Corner Carvers, General, Honda, Motorcycle, Sportbikes, Suzuki by Kurt Ernst | October 1st, 2010 | Leave a Reply |

In retrospect, the 1980s weren’t entirely bad. Sure, they gave us weird clothing, big hair and some tragically awful music, but they also gave us factory turbocharged motorcycles, at least for a few years. Between 1982 and 1985, you could walk into your local Honda / Suzuki / Yamaha / Kawasaki dealer, plunk down an astonishing amount of cash, and ride out on a factory-built, forced induction bike, complete with a manufacturer’s warranty.

Spyker Aeroblade

Posted in Café Racers, EcoLust, Spyker by Dustin Driver | September 30th, 2010 | Leave a Reply |

Aero-fabulous Dutch car crafters Spyker have focused their engineering expertise and supreme metallurgical aesthetics on bicycles. This is the result. The Spyker Aeroblade bike has a titanium frame and aluminum glass fiber coated carbon composite wheels and fenders. Its sumptuous leather seat and grips are made by Royal Dutch Tanners Hulshof. Gearing is handled by a 14-speed Rohloff internal gear hub. Formula disc brakes round out the package. It is the most obsessively designed and executed bicycle I’ve ever laid eyes upon. And I adore it. Spyker’s unyielding attention to detail and adherence to aeronautical cues make my soul soar like a biplane. Only 50 Aeroblades will be made. Cost: $15,000.

The Falcon Kestrel, Loose In LA

Posted in Café Racers, Cool Stuff, Motorcycle, Videos by Kurt Ernst | September 20th, 2010 | Leave a Reply |

We’ve told you about the Falcon Kestrel before, but this new video from Falcon Motorcycles shows the Kestrel running the streets of LA and the concrete canyons of the LA River. In case you’ve never heard of Falcon motorcycles, they’re the product of Ian Barry’s artistic genius. Starting with select components of a classic British bike (in the case of the Kestrel, a Triumph Bonneville motor mated to a BSA transmission), Barry and his team build one-off, custom bikes as his vision guides him. You won’t find any off-the-shelf tanks or fenders on a Falcon Motorcycle, and no two of their bike will ever be identical.

Cars and Coffee = Hot Rides and Burnt Rubber

Posted in Burnouts, Café Racers, Videos by MrAngry | September 9th, 2010 | 4 Responses |

We’d be lying if we said that we weren’t complete suckers for hot cars doing burnouts, especially when the quality of the video is good. I think this particular Cars and Coffee event was held down in Irvine, CA but odds are I’m probably wrong about that. All I know is that when a bunch of fast cars get together to cause a little a hoonage we’re all for it, just as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. Thankfully this day seem to encapsulate some great rides along with the right amount of wheel spin to make us smile.

Motorcycle Exhaust Bill Passes In California

Posted in Café Racers, Corner Carvers, Emissions, Environment, Legal, Motorcycle, Politics by Kurt Ernst | September 1st, 2010 | 23 Responses |

If you live in California and ride a motorcycle, I’ve got some bad news for you: a bill which would essentially mandate stock exhausts on motorcycles built after 2013 has passed and now goes to the Governator for signature. It’s expected that Governor Swarzenegger will sign it into law as soon as it crosses his desk.

2011 Moto Guzzi V7 Clubman

Posted in Café Racers, Moto Guzzi, Motorcycle by Dustin Driver | August 11th, 2010 | 2 Responses |

Café racers are undeniably gorgeous. There’s something about the stripped-down, DIY racing aesthetic that’s simply stunning. Moto Guzzi knows it and has souped up its sedate (but sexy) V7 Classic to make the V7 Clubman. The bike gets a shiny red frame, a glimmering chrome tank, and some snazzy number plates. From the looks of things, it also gets sportier suspension and an even grumblier exhaust system. No word on whether Moto Guzzi have squeezed some more power out of the V7′s modest 744-cc V-twin. The V7 Clubman will retail in October for about $11,000, $1,500 more than the V7 Classic. Personally, I’d remove the number plates. Or save some cash and run a set of flat or clip-on bars on the already sultry V7 Classic. My neighbor, Gabe Ets-Hokin, runs CityBike and recently had a V7 Classic for review. The bike was a feast for the eyes, a sleek vintage standard that took my breath away every time I passed it on the way to my car. Keep an eye out on CityBike for a full review.
