Bugatti released two special editions of its storied Veyron at the Geneva Motor Show. The better looking of the pair is the Grand Sport Blue Carbon, shown above and in more pics after the jump.

The carbon fiber hood, monocoque and rear are done in a translucent Royal Dark Blue, with a polished radiator surround. The front fenders and doors are done in Arctic White, which offsets the dark blue carbon fiber nicely. As you may have guessed, the interior is done in dark blue leather with white stitching (though it looks like slate gray in the pics).

This would go perfectly with the Alpine White / Orient Blue Metallic K1200RS I already own, so imagine my disappointment in finding out that the single model manufactured was already spoken for. It went for $2.39 million, and I’m guessing the new owner also has a blue and white K1200 in his garage.

Let’s take a look at something a bit different shall we. Boutique automakers have been around for years. Companies like Delorean and Bricklin paved the way back in the ’70’s & 80’s with their Gullwing doored rolling wedges. The new millennium however, has brought forth a new crop of boutique automakers that seem to be riding ahead of the curve.

Brands like Spyker, Koenegsegg, Pagani and Bugatti have reinvented the concept of what a boutique manufacturer really is. New and improved methods of manufacturing, equipment and technology have played a major role in helping these new automakers produce tailer made products for their clients.

Take a brand like Spyker for example – this is probably one of the most exquisite vehicles on the road today and houses a very precise marketing plan. Want a Ferrari or Lamborghini? Then by all means, go buy one. You see, Spyker positions itself as the car that you buy “in addition” to other super cars. No, it may not be as fast, but I’ll be damned if it’s not as striking, as well as being more refined – a gentleman’s super car if you will.

Other brands like Koenigsegg and Pagani are looking for the buyers that are that extra level-up on the Ferrari and Lamborghini purchaser. Their cars are build more for speed and have a tendency to kill you if you’re not careful.

Then there is the Bugatti Veyron, a car that caters to the uber ego in all of us and one that is truly a wonderment of modern engineering. Not only is it one of the fastest automobiles on the planet earth, but you’ll get to feel like Mr. Big Nuts every time you roll into a parking lot. Like I said, the new crop of boutique automakers are light years ahead of their predecessors in every department and by the looks of it, have no intention of slowing down.

Thanks to a shoestring budget and a disposable income that is disposed of rather quickly, I tend to keep my standards low when it comes to the pursuit of precious performance metals. I’ve been in the market for a new car (read: heavily used but “new” to me) recently and I’ve discovered that despite my rather inhibiting budget, I can still afford to get behind the wheel of even the most prestigious luxury cars – as long as said car has extremely serious mechanical issues. Beggars can’t be choosers though, which means despite the fairly severe issues the water logged Veyron in the clip below will inevitably experience, I’ll be keeping a keen eye on the Texas used car classifieds.

Sure, cruising the dusty streets of Dubai in your Veyron Grand Sport 16.4 with your chief harem girl is fun for a while, but even the most lascivious playboy eventually feels the need to settle down. Unfortunately, just as one cannot turn a ho into a housewife, neither can one rely on a Grand Sport 16.4 to accommodate the needs of a growing family. Thus, enter the Bugatti Galibier. Prematurely leaked under the name Bordeaux, the Galibier concept that debuted today marks the first we’ve seen of the new 4-door Bugatti outside of grainy teaser shots. Like your slightly less attractive yet far more nurturing wife, the 4-door Galibier works hard to provide all the white-knuckle thrills of the sleeker, smaller Veyron while simultaneously providing a more responsible, utilitarian supercar.

Power is generated by Bugatti’s famed 8.0L W16, which conservative estimates rate at 987 bhp and 922 lb-ft of torque (Bugatti themselves insist output hovers around upwards of 1,010 bhp). Partly to compensate for the heft added by the two extra doors, the Galibier’s bonnet, roof, and rear fender flares are all crafted using a midnight blue carbon fiber weave, which is complimented nicely by the polished aluminum cladding. As is the industry standard for concept vehicles, raw performance stats have yet to be published, but given that the Galibier’s top speed (217 miles per hour) lags noticeably behind the Veyron’s (253 mph), we expect the final numbers to be similarly more sedate.

Bottom line: think Prince Rashid bin El Hassan meets Robert Reed.

This heavily massaged Challenger made its hulking presence on the lawn known with its loud purpleish-blue paint and aggressive striping package. Of course, it wasn’t merely fronting; it backed up the visuals with a Lysholm supercharger that blows 3.2 cubic meters of air per minute into the 5.7 liter Hemi engine. It definitely stood out, even next to the eye-catching Bertone Mantide and Devon GTX.

Bertone Mantide

While if you were being unfair you would simply say that the Bertone Mantide is simply a Corvette ZR-1 wearing an expensive suit, we have to say that it makes an entirely different impression than a mere Corvette in the flesh. The initial photos of it made it look less exciting than it does in real life. Photos don’t do the car justice, but we tried to capture as much of the excitement as we could in these shots.

Infiniti Essence Concept

It debuted at Geneva this year and hinted at the new Infiniti M (which debuted in virtual form at Pebble Beach too, look for more on that soon). We have to say Infiniti’s new design language is really pushing the envelope, managing to look more Maserati than Nissan. We love the Ferrari-esque pointed fenders flanking that big angry grille. The wacky C-pillar kink, however, we could live without. Of course, the new M has a toned-down version of this theme, but manages to still capture the poise. Nicely done.

Lincoln Concept C

This crazy pufferfish-looking car debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, and let us tell ya, it hasn’t gotten any prettier. Lest you think we were bribed to gush about every car on the concept lawn (we weren’t, it’s just that most of them were great), we think the Concept C looks more like an iPod accessory than a Lincoln. Just a tip, guys … leave the Scion design themes to the Scion guys. But seriously, it’s a shame, because the newest Lincolns to go on sale have been incredibly distinctive cars that have been catching eyes not accustomed to alighting on a … Lincoln? We’re hoping this is one of those concepts that quietly goes away.

Bugatti Veyron Sang Bleu

The claim to fame of this limited-edition Veyron (of which there are so many, it’s getting to the point of being tacky) is its use of carbon fiber and aluminum, bare instead of painted, to show off the car. Bugatti is claiming that this is some sort of novel design concept, but we’re willing to bet that some cars have caught on long before this to use those very popular materials on the exterior of the car. Then again, not many cars are the Veyron, so possibly they could have slapped a Neuspeed sticker on it and claimed it was more unique and valuable. In any event, while there’s no discernable advantage to getting a Sang Bleu (“raw blood,” by the way, not “blue blood”), it sure looked nice.

Aston Martin One-77

Guess how many of this short-run model will be produced … here’s a hint: it’s between 76 and 78. This $1.4 million, 700 HP Aston is certainly beautiful, distinctive, and extremely exclusive. We happen to like the combination of “LOOK AT ME!” exterior mods on the taut lines of the car, which we think is just fine for a car so rare. Why else would you get one? Oh, probably the sound – we never heard the One-77 run, but we bet it is like some sort of spine-tingling cacophony of howling and braying. It looked angry, and we want one.

Spyker C8 Aileron

Spyker, the Dutch automaker of somewhat eccentric supercars, was showing off its new long-wheelbase version of the C8, the Aileron. Spyker carries some of its aeronautic-themed design touches to the extreme, but there is no denying that the C8 Aileron is a work of art. Whether or not it’s for you is a subject of personal taste. We thought the Aileron looked meaner and more purposeful than the regular C8 cars, with angrier and more angular headlights, but it was clearly a Spyker. This car has been around since last year, but the production numbers are so low that it was nice to see one in person. Plus there’s a 400 HP Audi motor out back, which probably sounds pretty sweet.

Even though Hennessey encourages comparisons of their VENOM GT to the Shelby Cobra, in reality, the concept car is the combination of two other automotive icons: the Lotus Exige and Chevrolet Corvette. As you could probably guess, one provides the chassis and the other the powerplant. Compared to any car, the expected performance figures are pretty staggering.

Hennessey is well-known for his upgraded Camaro, Viper and Corvette vehicles, which makes interest in this concept car so elevated. John Hennessey fully recognizes, however, that he is not the first Texan to dream up shoving a huge, powerful American engine into a small, light British car. Hence the coincidental homage to Shelby with the concept vehicles “Venom” designation, a label present in one other Hennessey produced vehicle. Still if that weren’t enough indication about this car’s potential, the aggressive exterior design makes sure the message is fully delivered.

Unlike the Cobra, the VENOM GT is mid-engined to optimize weight distribution and handling. When the car is fully unveiled in March of 2010, it will produce over 1,000 (perhaps close to 1,200) horsepower via the substantially-tuned Corvette ZR1’s LS9 engine that also delivers 950 lb. feet of torque. A Twin Turbo System helps motivate the already nimble 2395 lb. VENOM GT via a six-speed manual transmission. Now that we’ve sufficiently built it up, estimates of acceleration are predicted to result in 0 to 60 mph times of 2.2 seconds, 0 to 100 mph in 4.9 seconds, and an unbelievable top speed of 262 mph. The equally substantial braking prowess is provided by 15 inch carbon rotors with 6-piston calipers up front and 14 inch carbon rotors with 4-piston calipers in the rear.

Those that question whether Hennessey can move into supercar territory after unleashing brutal Camaro, Vipers and Jeeps are reminded by the Texan that his Viper-based Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT previously bested the Bugatti Veyron in an independent test from 0-200 mph. Unlike the Veyron or the Venom 1000, the Venom GT is being touted as a more engaging sports car to drive by challenging the driver with 1000+ horses in a chassis that is nearly 1500 lbs lighter than the Bugatti

Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT Coupe

In the end, demand for the new vehicle will ultimately be the deciding factor in the concept’s viability in being made. The expected base price is given as $600,000 and if built will certainly be an extremely limited production model.

Some things are undeniably ugly. Monkfish might taste delicious, but their redeeming qualities do not extend to their appearance. If you were asleep, and someone set a monkfish on your chest and woke you up, I guarantee you will crap yourself. They are hideous.

B Engineering's Aquatic Car?

Likewise, the B Engineering Edonis is oppressively ugly. It is only from a sense of morbid curiosity (familiar to anyone who has squirmed through any of the 15,000 Saw movie installments) that we present you with the Edonis. Observe the horror:

Bugatti EB110 SS

The Edonis is based off of the awesome Bugatti EB110, which was both obscured in its own lifetime by the inept management of Bugatti SpA, but also by the subsequent Veyron and its headline-spawning performance. The EB110 was no slouch, using its AWD and quad-turbo V12 to claw the heavy car to 60 MPH in 3.4 seconds. The body was mostly carbon fiber, and it has aged pretty well. When the company went bust, the assets were sold off … some to Dauer, and some to former Bugatti workers who formed B Engineering. They took out the front differential, making the Edonis RWD, and crafted the body to be completely repulsive from every angle.

Somehow this makes a Gumpert Apollo look nice.

We think they succeeded. If nothing else, you can credit the Edonis with helping you remember how awesome its donor EB110 was. And, by the way, the Dauer version kicked serious ass, weighing five hundred pounds less than the original and pumping out 650 HP to hit 60 in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 230 MPH. Especially impressive that Dauer was able to do that without the millions of dollars a large corporation like VW had to play with in developing the Veyron.

But yeah, that Edonis … yeesh!

Bugatti is sending out invitations to an ultra-exclusive reveal party scheduled during the Frankfurt Motor Show. What, you didn’t get yours? Too bad, since each one includes a teaser photo of the new Bordeaux, Bugatti’s latest ultra-mega-class-by-itself super four-seater. Well, I’m sure you could just show up at the door and watch me pretend not to know you.

Details are very limited, but you can fully expect the Bordeaux to sport a shooting brake-style rear end with a uniquely vertical LED CHMSL bisecting the rear glass. This is what it would look like if starships had tail lamps. Power will come from the familiar 8.0L W16 quad turbo engine, mounted up front and producing 987 hp. Look for Bugatti to totally upstage the Grand Bentley in September.
