Motor-Skiing: I Wonder Why This Sport Never Took Off

Posted in Bizarre, FAIL, FAIL / Funny, Funny, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 21st, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Dubbed as “The Most Dangerous Sport In The World,” motor-skiing was newsworthy enough in 1955 for someone to film this short but sensationalized video. The concept is simple enough: put a rope on a car or motorcycle, presumably equipped with studded snow tires, then have the driver navigate a race course at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. A 480 Horsepower… Bar Stool?

Posted in Bizarre, Engines, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 21st, 2011 | 1 Response |

When it comes to motorized bar stools, I’d be the first to say that a small block Chevy is really all you need. The Australians clearly disagree, and the latest episode of “Add A Motor To It” features a big-block barstool, built by Kit Anderson. That’s a 454 cubic inch Chevy motor that Kit is sitting atop of, and in its current state of tune he estimates it’s good for around 480 horsepower. It’ll tow 2,000 pounds as well, which probably comes in handy when your friends’ barstools break down. Read More…

More Proof That Australians Are Insane – A V-8 Kei Car

The Suzuki Mighty Boy was, by all rational descriptions, an utterly forgettable car. Considered a “kei car,” or light automobile, the Mighty Boy could best be described as an Isuzu Amigo, rendered in 1/2 scale. It was underpowered as well as being tiny, and most made do with a 543cc engine, good for around 25 horsepower. What they lacked in power or functionality, the Mighty Boys made up for with a low price, and the Mighty Boy had the dubious distinction of being the cheapest automobile in Australia from 1985 to 1998. Formula 1 Comes To Kashmir

This year marks the debut of F1 in India, so Red Bull is pulling out all the stops to promote both the sport and the new venue. What better way to earn bragging rights than to run the Red Bull F1 car on the highest drivable road in the world, located in the northern Indian state of Kashmir? Read More…

I Don’t Know What This Thing Is, But Damn I Want To Ride It

I’m normally not a fan of trikes, but I’m willing to make an exception for the utterly insane beast in the video below. Since the video comes from a Russian-language site on You Tube, I can’t offer any details (since my Cyrillic is more than a little rusty). Still, judging from the passing traffic the video was shot in the United States. I’d go one step farther and say it was filmed in New York. Read More…

Nothing This Big Should Move This Fast

I’ve seen a lot of things in my life, good, bad and just plain ugly. When it comes to motorsports, few things surprise me anymore, since builders have stuffed V-8 mills in just about everything you can imagine. Even the world’s fastest couch, complete with downforce-adding coffee table, can run into the triple digits. What’s left when it comes to going fast? Read More…

Video: Giant, Bouncing Tatras!

Let’s face it: if you’re a guy, you could look at giant, bouncing Tatras all day long. In fact, it’s really hard not to stare, and to call them “distracting” is a vast understatement. After all, who wants to get work done when you could be watching ten minutes of jiggling Tatra action on You Tube? Read More…

A Gas Powered, Motorized Toilet: Mankind’s Finest Hour?

Posted in Bizarre, Cool Stuff, Other Rides, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 8th, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

For those of us who really like to drive, there are few things that can get us to stop on a road trip. The call of nature, sadly, is one of them, which begs the question, why not create a vehicle that combines internal combustion with personal sanitation? That’s exactly what Australian inventor and mad genius Rick Werner thought, chalking it up to too much alcohol and too much time on his hands. I beg to differ, and offer up the opinion that the motorized toilet may be the very pinnacle of human evolution. Read More…

Viral Dutch Ad For The Hyundai Veloster An Instant Classic

Posted in Bizarre, Funny Videos, Hyundai, Safety, Scandal by Kurt Ernst | August 24th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Rumor has it that this ad was banned from Dutch television as being just a tad too shocking and tasteless. We’re not buying that the ad was ever intended for television audiences, because even the Germans wouldn’t run an ad like this. Our guess is that the ad was created specifically for the internet, since nothing is off-limits in cyberspace.

If you get past the whole shock thing (and I won’t ruin the video by telling you what happens in advance), it’s a pretty funny ad and a good way for Hyundai to promote the practicality of the third door on its upcoming Veloster model. Unless, of course you live in Japan, Australia, Britain or any of the other countries that drive on the wrong side of the road, in which case this ad won’t make any sense at all. Video after the jump. Read More…

Maserati Grand Cherokee To Be Built In Detroit

Chuck Berry penned these lyrics made famous by George Thorogood: “I met a German girl in England who was going to school in France, said we danced the Mississippi at an Alpha Kappa dance.” It would appear that the tale of the upcoming Maserati SUV is no less confusing, since it involves Maserati, Jeep, Italy and Detroit. Here’s what we know: Maserati will build their own SUV, based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it will be assembled in Chrysler’s Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. Read More…
