Ever look at a vehicle and think WTF? That’s exactly what I was thinking when I first laid eyes on the Iguana 29. The Iguana is an interesting boat in the fact that it employs retractable tank tracks that give it the ability to run up on shore whenever necessary. The problem though is this. In boat mode with the tracks tucked neatly away, the Iguana zips across the water with no problems. However once on shore, it crawls along at a snails pace making it almost useless. I mean yes it has tracks, and yes it’s somewhat inventive, but I honestly can’t think of one application that would warrant the Iguana’s massive $290,000 asking price. In short, the Iguana 29 is nothing more then the answer to the question that nobody asked.

Riding a motorcycle in the rain is an acquired taste, since it demands a lot of attention and the careful application of throttle, brakes and steering input. In other parts of the world, like China, riding in the rain is a necessity, not merely an inconvenience. Still, with proper gear like a decent rain suit, you can arrive at your destination in reasonably dry condition.

That’s why we’re failing to see the genius behind the motorcycle rider tent, discovered on Carscoop. Sure, it doubles as an outhouse, too (really, there’s proof in the video), but it also acts as a sail. Down here, at least, rain is often accompanied by strong winds, the kind that could easily push you in front of an oncoming semi if you’re dumb enough to wear something with the surface area of a house.

We’ll stick to our Aerostitch suit, which keeps us dry and saves our hide in the event of a crash. It doesn’t double as an outhouse, but we’re okay with finding the nearest tree in an emergency.

The Mosler Raptor GTR packs 838-horsepower into its 2,580 pound frame, which gives it a horsepower-to-weight ratio some 36-percent better than a Bugatti Veyron. That’s enough to launch the Raptor from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds, and we’re guessing the car will easily break the 200 mph barrier. If that’s not fast enough for you, Mosler will also build a 1,212 horsepower Raptor GTR, but only in a special “Abby Cubey Edition.”

Just in case that’s not weird enough for you, since we have no idea what a pseudo-obscure singer-songwriter has to do with a carbon-fiber supercar, check out the video below, found on Autoblog. Trust us on this – it pegs the weird-o-meter, and Cubey’s singing resembles the velvet notes of, say, Yoko Ono. It’s bad in a floss-your-brain-out-afterward kind of way, but on the plus side, there’s lots of cleavage and carbon-fiber. Enjoy.

I’m not sure what’s more frightening: the fact that 86 year old Mary Lee Fine is still driving, or the fact that she really has no idea how she drove her car through a metal fence and into a swimming pool. Luck was on her side, since Fine knocked a metal chair into the pool, which ultimately prevented her car from sinking (and Fine from drowning).

Fine says the accident happened when another car parked too close, forcing her to climb through the passenger door. In sliding over into the driver’s seat, she claims to have accidentally hit the “key or the gear shift,” causing her car to bounce off a neighbor’s Toyota before crashing through the fence and into the pool. The whole thing was captured on security camera footage, and this much is clear: the accelerator was matted when Fine crashed through the fence.

Remind me again, why don’t we re-test all drivers above a certain age?

It’s no surprise that you may think that toilets sell themselves. However dig a little deeper and you’ll realize that creating a great porcelain throne takes time, money and a great marketing budget. Japanese toilet maker Toto understands this and has recently come up with a pretty unconventional plan to get the word out about their newest products. You see there’s thinking outside the box, and then there’s thinking OUTSIDE the box, and in Toto’s case their box has three wheels and is powered by bio-fuel. Toto figures that by making this trike run on poop-powered bio-gas that they’ll not only raise awareness for renewable energy, but in the process, sell some fancy new toilet bowls. Company spokesman Kenji Fujita stated, “Although the seat of the bike is indeed a toilet, it is not for actual use.”

The fuel is produced by breaking down and fermenting a combination of household and livestock waste into a gas form, which is then stored in twin tanks on the back of the bike. Fujita also stated that, “At first when I saw the bike, I was taken aback. But after riding it, I found it quite interesting,” she said. “It doesn’t hurt at all and is actually quite comfortable to sit on.”

Hmm… interesting.

Quick: what’s the best chase scene ever shot? Is it from Bullitt? The French Connection? Ronin, perhaps?

Not even close: the best chase scene ever filmed comes from Bollywood, not Hollywood. When to comes to actions films, those made in India simply kick more ass than those filmed here. Their cars, for example, explode before impact, launching skyward in cheese-o-riffic fireballs. And since what goes up must come down, our hero has to dodge flaming wreckage from the sky, as well as carnage on the ground.

I don’t know who the hero of this movie is, but he makes Bruce Lee, Charles Bronson, Bruce Willis and John Wayne all look like pacifists. In fact, given his capabilities with a pair of inline skates, a rope and an anchor, I couldn’t even imagine what he’s capable of with a paper clip and an office stapler.

If you’ve ever driven any kind of World War II vintage truck, you know this for certain: they may be rugged, and you may be able to fix them with pliers and duct tape, but no one would accuse them of being fast. That is unless you bolt a 3,400 horsepower jet engine to the bed of your 1942 GMC Blitz, in which case it will probably run the quarter mile in 11 seconds at 120 miles per hour, on its way to a top speed of 150.

That’s scary fast in something that has the aerodynamics of a housing complex, and the builder is called Mad Ron for a reason. You’re best off skipping the vaguely homoerotic middle part of this video (which has me thinking that Dan and Leon are more than just friends, not that there’s anything wrong with that) but watching the truck run at the end is worth it. Would I drive it? Hell no, but it sure is entertaining watching someone else risk a fiery death.

The world needs more twisted geniuses like Jonathan Ward. His company, Icon, is best known for building restored and bulletproof Toyota Land Cruisers and Jeep CJs, but it also dabbles in the fine art of what Ward calls “derelicts.” The concept is simple: take an original but worn car, then throw the best parts you can at the chassis, motor and even interior.

In the case of this year’s derelict project, a 1952 Chevy Deluxe Businessman’s Coupe (which had only 8,000 original miles when Icon found it in a Texas barn), Icon began the build with an Art Morrison chassis that used an independent front suspension and a four link rear. Next came Wilwood brakes, with six-pot calipers up front and four-pots in the rear. Under the hood lurks a 6.2-liter Chevy crate engine, good for 430 horsepower and fed by a 37 gallon fuel tank.

Inside, the seats, door panels and steering wheel are finished in what looks like alligator hide, and it’s impossible to tell the serious amount of money that went into the build. As Ward explains, part of the fun in driving the car is that no one gives it a second look, and you can park it anywhere. Just try that with a six-figure Ferrari.

When training for space flight, astronauts are subjected to a ride in an aircraft that (temporarily, at least) simulates the effects of zero gravity. Since the human body isn’t accustomed to rapid changes in g-forces and weightlessness, a common reaction is the rapid and spectacular voiding of one’s stomach contents. Hence, the aircraft used in training, regardless of the make and model, is dubbed the “Vomit Comet.”

Now picture motorized ground transportation where the driver moves independently from the vehicle; in other words, when the vehicle stops, the rider keeps moving. Ditto for acceleration, which would be enough to induce motion sickness in the bulk of us. In case that’s not enough, you can even do spins (called “gerbiling”) and death rolls, which virtually guarantee that partially digested food will soon be shooting from your nostrils. Welcome to the world of the diwheel.

We have no idea why you’d want to build a motorized diwheel, but an Australian engineering student named Sam Hart did just that. Enjoy his antics in the video below, and rest assured that we won’t be road testing one anytime soon.

Call us Neanderthals, but we have no idea how dropping a new car out of a plane, or pushing it off a stack of shipping containers, helps sell cars. It’s the whole “adventure sports, Gen Y” angle that Chevy is going for, we suppose, so that means it doesn’t have to make sense as long as it’s cool to watch. The Sonic dropped from the airplane is surprisingly mesmerizing, and you can’t help but wonder what it would feel like to get hit by a car in free fall.

The bungee jumping bit is just a bit “Meh” for our tastes, but we included it here as part of a theme. If Chevy is taking suggestions, we’d like to see the new Sonic compete in other adventure sports, such as extreme downhill mountain biking and big wave surfing. Feel free to name any others I may have missed.
