Love the Beast: MUST WATCH

Love the Beast

With the recent crop of automotive films such as SENNA, RUSH, and Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le Mans, I figured I’d post something up about a film that very few motor-heads actually know about. Love the Beast was the brainchild of actor Eric Bana, and tells the story of his first car – an old Ford XB Falcon. With appearances from Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno and believe it or not Dr. Phill (really?) Love the Beast is one of those rare films that explains exactly why we love cars so damn much.

1981 Delorean – TIME MACHINE

DeLorean Time Machine

We sometimes forget that not everyone who owns a special car has to be an automobile enthusiast. For example, this is Lenny Hochteil and his 1981 Delorean time machine. Lenny describes himself as a “movie car guy” as opposed to an enthusiast, and he owns this particular car because of the way it makes him feel. Now, is there anything wrong with that? Well no, nothing at all as Lenny’s passion for this Delorean is the type of car that gets people excited and makes them ask questions about the hobby. Movie cars, race cars, daily drivers… it honestly doesn’t matter as we love them all.

Dodge Durango | Ron Burgundy | “Ride”

Ron Burgundy

I wonder if I should point out to Dodge that even though they now have Ron Burgundy as their pitchman for the new 2014 Dodge Durango, that he is in fact a Pontiac guy. Seriously, he drove a 1970 Pontiac Catalina in his last movie, which, as we all know is a bitching ride if there ever was one. I’ve got to hand it to these guys though as the new Durango is actually a really nice ride. It’s got seating for 7, 360 hp and some of the best sheet metal we’ve seen on an SUV in quite some time. So, with that being said, check out the Ron Burgundy spots after the jump and prepare to revel in everything from the big HEMI V8, to the massive amounts of storage in the glove box.

Busa Kart

Putting a Suzuki Hayabusa engine into anything that requires an engine is a good idea as far as I’m concerned. They make gobs of power, rev to the moon, and can be literally shoehorned into just about anything. Case in point – this RIDICULOUS golf cart that you’re about to see. I WANT ONE!

Batman’s Tumbler – Jay Leno’s Garage

Batman's Tumbler

When the Tumbler first broke onto the silver screen as Batman’s new ride in Christopher Nolan’s 2005 Batman Begins, it cemented itself as an instant movie classic. It was bigger, badder and burlier than any other Batmobile that came before it, and looked to be a cross between a stealth fighter and a Mack truck. The cool part however is that this is an actual running and driving car and not just some movie prop as Jay Leno recently found out.

Peace & Quiet : Fast Pants – Tight Cars

Valiant Charger

As I was doing some research on the Australian based Chrysler Valiant Charger, I came upon the short film, Peace & Quiet : Fast Pants – Tight Cars. To be honest it’s quite terrible and it reminds me of the video Sabotage from the Beastie Boys. There is however some kick-ass footage of old Valiant Chargers and classic motorcycles so it’s definitely worth the watch if you’ve got nothing better to do and lots of time to kill. Check it out after the jump.

Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R has now gained the status of being the “most compared to” car in the world. It’s the benchmark and the car that every other performance car is measured against. However with all its performance bells and whistles, the biggest complaint amongst enthusiasts is its sheer lack of driver engagement. Motor Trend’s Justin Bell recently got behind the wheel of the new GT-R and had some curious reactions to a car that should’ve (on paper anyway) blown him away.

Knight Rider – Homemade KITT Replica

Knight Rider

Can u believe that at one time David Hasselhoff and a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am were considered to be cool? The Trans Am was pretty trick for back in the day. It featured bullet-proof glass, a turbo system that let it jump over buildings and two TV screens. Oh, and it also talked and acted as the automotive guardian for the Hoff. Now, building TV replicas is nothing new. However the majority of the time people do more harm to the cars than good. This one though is simply outstanding. Love the show or hate it, you’ve got to admit that this fans’ Trans Am is one pretty slick ride.

Seinfeld: Before “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”

Jerry Seinfeld

If you’re a fan of Jerry Seinfeld then you know that he’s one of the biggest Porsche fanatics on the planet. He owns a 917, a Carrera GT and of course, the first 911 ever built. His passion with Porsche borderlines on crazy, but hell, if we had his money we’d probably be the same way. What you are about to see is a piece that Porsche produced back in 2009 that illustrates just how strongly their owners feel about their cars – Seinfeld more than any other.
