Mad Max Wasteland Weekend

Believe it or not, but every year in Southern California fans of the cult film MAD MAX gather for what is simply known as, “Wasteland Weekend”. Think of it as a mini Burning Man event, except without the naked hippie chicks, good music and weed. In fact basically it’s just a bunch of comic book loving adults prancing around in costumes pretending to be Mel Gibson before he went all bat-shit crazy on us. Check it out after the jump.

Wall of Death Riders

What would you do in order to make a living? Would you risk life and limb on a daily basis and, if so, how would you justify it to others. India’s Wall of Death Riders are a group of daredevils who look death in the face for a bit of fame and very little in the way of fortune. Some people say their insane, but for these men, it’s just another day at the office.

World of Wheels

It’s not uncommon to be enamored by the technology that lies beneath today’s automobiles. We’ve got computers by the dozens, hundreds of relays and enough wiring to bring oceans together. Back in the 1950′s and 1960′s though it was the design of the automobile that had everyone gasping for breath. Some say this was the pinnacle of design for the American automobile, and honestly, we tend to agree. The following video is great in the sense that it’s hosted by the late, great Loyd Bridges. A wonderful actor and an even bigger car guy. Check it out after the jump.

Pagani Huayra

Think for moment about Disney’s animated movie CARS. Think about their personalities, how they were viewed by the other cars, and how they sounded. Now think about if YOU could come back as a car and if that was possible, what would you be. Personally, I’d come back as a highly modified late ’60s Dodge Charger, but running a close second would be this epic Pagani Huayra. Talk about a stunner…

Hella Flush

There are some automotive trends that I just don’t get. Spinners for instance (remember those) was one. The import fart can revolution was another and now there’s this Hellaflush thing, which for the life of me I can’t figure out why anyone would want to do this to their automobile. Yes, it looks pretty good, but from a driving and handling perspective, it simply ruins the vehicle. The guys at FatlaceTV did however make a kick-ass film of the Slammed Society & Hellaflush that took place at the infamous Fuji Speedway in Japan, so I suppose that’s something.

Aeromobil Roadable

I was once asked to be on a panel of automotive journalist to discuss the idea of flying cars becoming a reality. My answer was “Yes”, they will be a reality, but it will be a nightmare if people actually start to use them. Just think about rush hour in your favorite city with 20,000 people trying to “fly” home. It would be a chaotic nightmare. That however hasn’t stopped inventors from trying to build them. Case-in-point, the Aeromobil Roadable Aircraft 2.5. A flying car that may just be a glimpse into the future.

Volkswagen Beetle Mini-Camper

VW Trailer

The 1974 Volkswagen Beetle made something like 50 hp and 75 lb-ft of torque. It had a top speed of around 80 mph and honestly, didn’t have the power to drive itself up a steep hill. That however didn’t stop one company from making a very interesting camper trailer for the little Bug. It fitted to a roof mounted hitch and while attached, gave the tow vehicle a 360 degree turning radius. The overall design was actually pretty trick, but the lack of power from the VW Beetle unfortunately meant that this neat little toter-trailer was doomed from the start.
