If you were born after 1985 then the odds of you ever seeing a real life carburetor are probably pretty slim. I mean let’s face it, even though fuel-injection was available in the late 60′s it wasn’t really implemented until the mid-1980′s. For those of you out there however who feel the need to know how this little piece of old school technology actually works, fear not, because this video explains everything you need to know about your friend and mine, the carburetor.

It dawned on me recently as I was driving along in the middle of nowhere California that most drivers aren’t properly prepared for those “Oh SHIT!” moments. Therefore I’ve decided to make a quick list of things that you should never be without, and it applies to all drivers, regardless of your daily distance traveled.

1. Cell Phone: These little devices are generally the first line of defense when you’re stranded out there on the open road. They give you comfort, provide you with the contact and emergency information of those that can help, and give you the ability to call on #2 on the list. Oh… and don’t forget to keep your cell charger in the car at all times.

2. AAA Card: The American Automobile Association (or Triple-A) has been around since 1902 with the main purpose of helping stranded motorists wherever they may be. Now here’s the deal. If you haven’t signed up for their service then do so NOW! And don’t be cheap – get their “Premier” service. It gives you 200 miles of free towing and only costs around $119.00 per year. Trust me on this, because if you’ve ever been stranded without any type of towing service then you already know that it costs upwards of $4.50 per/mile for a tow and that can add up real quick!

3. Can of Fix-O-Flat: Many of today’s newest cars come with 19-inch or larger wheels. This means that odds of you actually having a spare are slim to none. Some manufacturers are kind enough to provide you with a can of the stuff already, but if you’re like me, then you always know that it’s better to have a spare. Also, if you have one of these kits already in your car, make sure to check the expiration date (yes they do expire) so you’re not S.O.L. if a tire goes South.

4. Roadside Flares: Being stuck on the side of the road sucks, especially at night when oncoming automobiles can’t see you. Carrying 3 or 4 roadside flares solves this problem by not only alerting other drivers to your presence, but also giving you piece of mind so that no one (hopefully) slams into you.

5. First Aid Kit: From slamming that finger in the car door, to hitting your head on the hood-latch while checking the oil, a small first aid kit can come in handier than you know. Get a good one with some bandages, band-aids and a good disinfectant just in case you really mess yourself up.

Let’s be honest, if you drive a car on a regular basis then the odds of you speeding are pretty good. Be it 5 mph or 25 mph over the legal limit, speeding is speeding, and in case you didn’t know, that means you’re breaking the law. However most law enforcement agents tend to look the other way if you’re not abusing the limits. For instance, if the speed limit is 55 mph, it’s not uncommon to see motorists cruising at 65 mph – I mean we all do it right? Csaba Csere, contributing editor for Car and Driver magazine understands this and has put together a little video that tells how not to break the law, but simply circumnavigate it a bit.

In 1984 there was the Ferrari 288 GTO. Housing a mid-engine twin-turbo V8 that produced 400 hp and 366 lb·ft of torque, it was one of the first, truly modern Ferrari’s. In 1987 came the F40, a car that some consider to be one of the greatest cars ever build and the last pure Ferrari. It used a derivative of the engine used in the 288 GTO, and made 478 hp and 425 lb·ft of torque. The F50 debuted in 1996, and with a naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V12, power was bumped to 513 hp and 347 lb·ft of torque. It was also capable of taking the car to a top speed of 194 mph. In 2002 the Ferrari Enzo tore into the motoring press. It looked like nothing else on the road and like the F50 before it, utilized a V12 making 651 hp and 485 lb·ft of torque.

It’s now 2013 and Ferrari has just pulled the curtain back on its newest creation, the LaFerrari. It utilizes a HY-KERS system and a carbon-fibre chassis and is stunning from just about every angle. Click through to check out Ferrari’s newest creation.

Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire and DRIVE’s TUNED recently took an opportunity to break this barrier by climbing behind the wheel of John Hennessey’s insanely fast Venom GT, a car that recently ran its way into the record books. What’s even crazier though is that he did this in the Venom GT Spyder because his helmeted head wouldn’t fit in the coupe! Click through to check out the video.

If you’re a fan of the show MotorWeek like I am then the name Pat Goss is very familiar to you. You see Pat is the resident expert on car care at MotorWeek, and aside from being unbelievably knowledgeable, he just comes across as a good honest individual who wants nothing more than to educate motorists. On this segment Goss instructs us to “proceed with caution” whenever you have your car serviced at a quick care establishment and not to fall for any of those “extra” services that are usually offered by technicians. Click through and check it out.

Boutique car companies are nothing new to the automotive world. They’re small, push out very limited numbers and in the end give the consumer something that is truly unique. Lucra began producing cars in 2011 and in that time they’ve managed to develop a vehicle with some pretty staggering performance numbers. Powered by a GM sourced LS7 that pumps out 505 hp, the Lucra LC470 goes 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and is capable of blitzing the quarter mile in 9.4 seconds making it one of the fastest road legal cars in existence. Motor Trend recently got an inside look at the Lucra when they sat down with Luke Richards, the companies founder.
