BeamNG: Most Realistic Physics Engine Ever?

BeamNG Physics Engine

Back in the mid-70’s and early 80’s automotive video games consisted of two dots of different colors running around two green lines that constituted a racetrack. The mid-80’s saw 8-bit and 12-bit multicolored racing games like “Spy Hunter” and “Out Run“, games that were fun for back in the day, but were nothing like what we have now. In the mid-1990’s life-like physics started to get into the mix and that’s where everything changed. BeamNG is a small start-up company whose main focus is to develop a state of the art real time physics simulation engine utilizing soft body physics. Think doors denting and windshields shattering and you’ll get the idea. The following video not only shows us what they’ve been able to accomplish, but gives us an idea of what we’ll be looking at in the very near future.

No helmets, no brains, no problem. This is the general issue with everything the North American Redneck (N.A.R.) does in life. They dive in head first without a care in the world and simply hope that things go their way. This is a truck called AIR MUNDY with its owner Daniel Mundy behind the wheel. They recently attended a little gathering at the West Georgia Mud Park were they decided to partake in a little high-flying, mud bogging action.

Video Games are NOT reality.

Forza Motorsport 4

Why is it that just because people have played Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsports that they think this prepares them for the rigors of driving on a real race track? I recently had a conversation with a gentleman who swore up and down that his 1-minute 56-second simulated lap at Infineon Raceway on Forza Motorsport 4 would most likely translate to a 2-minute time if he were actually on the track. He explained to me that his car (daily driver) was a slightly modified 2009 BMW M3, the same car he was running in the game, but because it was in fact a game, that it would only result in a 4-second loss if he were to run it at the track in reality – does that make sense? After listening to him go on and on about his car, skill level and how fast he was, I inquired as to how many times he’d been to Infineon Raceway and or a real race track. The answer was an unsurprising “0”. Now, while video games can give you a little insight in regards to track layout, I’m hear to tell you that if you’ve never been to a racetrack before, you’d be screwed big time if you showed up and tried to run flat-out.

We brought you the making of this last week, but here’s the full version of the action-movie director’s trailer for Need For Speed: The Run, courtesy of GT Channel. I’ll give the story line a thumbs up, even if it is a bit far-fetched, and the graphics look impressive enough to keep the game interesting.

I know it’s fantasy, but if anyone ever decides to hold a cross country race with a $25 million purse, I’m pretty sure you can count both Mike and I in. Read More…

Forza Motorsport 4: Review

Forza Motorsport 4 Review

Need for Speed, Gran Turismo and Dirt. All driving games that pride themselves on realism, advanced graphics and physics engines that will make you swear you’re behind the wheel of your favorite ride. In the past Gran Turismo was the undisputed king of the drivers, however over time Turn 10 Studios has been quietly updating and massaging their Forza Motorsport franchise to the point where it has not only surpassed Gran Turismo, but blown it clean out of the water. I’ve been playing it now for a solid week and the only downside I can find is that it’s simply making my days go by way too quickly. Combine that with their online play, full automobile customization features, and community aspects and you’ve got yourselves a driving game that, in my humble opinion, has no equal. recently conducted a full review of Forza 4 covering presentation, story and game play with the results being two big thumbs up!
