Forza Horizons

If you’ve ever played Turn 10′s Forza Motorsports before then you know that the worst part of the game is the fact that there is no open world playability. Sure you can race, receive damage and drift, but this is 2012 which means that gamers want access to everything. Thankfully the boys at Turn 10 have heard our prayers and answered with Forza Horizon, the next installment of the franchise that not only dethroned Gran Turismo, but rewrote the book on console racers. Spy Hunter Video Game

You’ve probably never heard of Peter Gunn, the television series that ran from 1958-1961. It followed the adventures of a cool-ass private detective who was constantly on the hunt for adventure. Now while you may not know the show, you definitely know its theme song. Written by Henry Mancini, the Peter Gunn theme was revisited in the early 1980′s when it appeared as the theme for one of the greatest video arcade games ever in the form of “Spy Hunter”. The game pitted you (the Driver) in the seat of the world’s greatest spy car (the Interceptor) in an on road battle that would have had Mad Max calling for his Momma. It’s now 30 years later and a new version of the game is set to be released. The Interceptor is back, the action is back, and you guessed it, that same bad-ass music is back as well.

BeamNG: Most Realistic Physics Engine Ever?

Posted in Best of, Educational, Games, General, Video Games, Videos by MrAngry | July 14th, 2012 | 1 Response |

BeamNG Physics Engine

Back in the mid-70′s and early 80′s automotive video games consisted of two dots of different colors running around two green lines that constituted a racetrack. The mid-80′s saw 8-bit and 12-bit multicolored racing games like “Spy Hunter” and “Out Run“, games that were fun for back in the day, but were nothing like what we have now. In the mid-1990′s life-like physics started to get into the mix and that’s where everything changed. BeamNG is a small start-up company whose main focus is to develop a state of the art real time physics simulation engine utilizing soft body physics. Think doors denting and windshields shattering and you’ll get the idea. The following video not only shows us what they’ve been able to accomplish, but gives us an idea of what we’ll be looking at in the very near future.

Video Games are NOT reality.

Forza Motorsport 4

Why is it that just because people have played Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsports that they think this prepares them for the rigors of driving on a real race track? I recently had a conversation with a gentleman who swore up and down that his 1-minute 56-second simulated lap at Infineon Raceway on Forza Motorsport 4 would most likely translate to a 2-minute time if he were actually on the track. He explained to me that his car (daily driver) was a slightly modified 2009 BMW M3, the same car he was running in the game, but because it was in fact a game, that it would only result in a 4-second loss if he were to run it at the track in reality – does that make sense? After listening to him go on and on about his car, skill level and how fast he was, I inquired as to how many times he’d been to Infineon Raceway and or a real race track. The answer was an unsurprising “0″. Now, while video games can give you a little insight in regards to track layout, I’m hear to tell you that if you’ve never been to a racetrack before, you’d be screwed big time if you showed up and tried to run flat-out.

We brought you the making of this last week, but here’s the full version of the action-movie director’s trailer for Need For Speed: The Run, courtesy of GT Channel. I’ll give the story line a thumbs up, even if it is a bit far-fetched, and the graphics look impressive enough to keep the game interesting.

I know it’s fantasy, but if anyone ever decides to hold a cross country race with a $25 million purse, I’m pretty sure you can count both Mike and I in. Read More…
