Every year in August under New York’s Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE), there is a car show that brings together some of the baddest hot-rods in all of New York’s 5 boroughs. It’s put on by the Rumblers Car Club of N.Y.C and if you think you’re getting in there with your pretty 1971 Cuda’, then think again. The Rumblers are all about expression and the love of that 1950′s rockabilly lifestyle. The show includes rat-rods, vintage hot-rods, gassers as well as some home built creations that will simply blow your mind. Now sure, at days end these bad boys of the automotive world may not be for everyone. But we here at RL.com just thank God everyday that there are folks like this keeping the spirit of the hot-rodder alive.

You’ve got to admit that watching Vicki Butler-Henderson fling the new 2012 BMW M5 around is pretty damn sexy. First off, both the car and Vicki are easy on the eyes, and secondly they both have the ability to blow your doors off if given the opportunity. Um wait… in Vicki’s case I mean from behind the wheel not from, er, well… you know. Anyway, the new BMW M5 is now in its 5th generation and with that comes more power, more refinement and of course, more performance. For instance, gone is the big V10 mill of the E60 and in it’s place is a more efficient 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 552-hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. This means a 30-percent increase in fuel economy, a 0-62 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top end of 190 mph with the optional M package. Combine that with a new more free flowing interior, dynamic damper control and a new multi-plate limited slip differential and you’ve got yourself one helluva car on your hands. Ken Block just recently finished up his gymkhana world tour and with it comes not only some great highlights, but loads and loads of tire smoking action. Block started his tour in Vienna, Austria, then hit-up good ole’ Los Angeles California, with his final stop happening in Melbourne Australia. Keep in mind that this tour contained not only the antics of Mr. Block, but also some of the best freestyle motorcyclists in the world. Adam Jones, Alastair Sayer, Martin Shenck and Blake “Bilko” Williams were all on hand to partake in the festivities. That meant that not only were fans treated to some of the best four-wheeled hooning around, but they also got a first-hand look at what it’s like to fly ass-over-tea-kettle on a big-bore motor-bike. There’s no doubt that Block’s tour was a phenomenal success, however now the big question is, when is the next Gymkhana video coming out?

American muscle cars are brutish machines that have a personality all their own. Their loud, dirty and don’t do anything particularly well, except that is, make you smile like a four year old. Maybe it’s the rumbling their V8 engines or the fact that they have the ability to incinerate their tires at a moments notice. Or maybe, just maybe, they transport us back to a time when muscle cars simply meant one thing… freedom. Alexandra Lier is a German muscle car enthusiast who not only loves the American car culture, but has in her possession one very cool 1967 Plymouth Barracuda notch-back. The Barracuda’s built from 1967-1969 are, in my opinion, some of the coolest cars out there. These short wheelbase cars not only handle great with some mild tweaking, but throw in a tuned small-block, and well… you’d have yourself one wicked little rocket on your hands. Alexandra’s been to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, written a book about American cars entitled “SPEEDSEEKERS” and has her thumb on exactly what’s going on here in the U.S. even though she’s 3,000 miles away.

She drives a 1939 Packard 128, along with a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe convertible on a daily basis and seems to have an eye for the truly collectible. For most women driving either of these cars would be a daunting task, but for Dita Von Teese it’s just another day. Women and motorcycles generally mix like oil and water. For the most part motorcycles, mopeds and scooters are a mans game, however there is a group of ladies out there who seek to change that. These are the Gaskets, a gold jacket wearing group of girls who dig mechanized machines as much as their twig and berry equipped counterparts. Understand that these are not just a bunch of dolled up pretty-faced posers, but down and dirty bikers (albiet small bikes) who not only wrench on their own machines, but bring a little class to the two-wheeled world. Thus far, the only problem I can see with the Gaskets is that there simply aren’t enough of them around.

Muscle Cars at the Mansion is a yearly event where 40 or so of the coolest hot-rods, muscle cars and motorcycles gather for charity at the world famous Playboy Mansion. This year we were lucky enough to get an invite and with that a chance to cross off another item on the ole’ automotive bucket list. We brought our 1969 Dodge Daytona tribute car to display, and thankfully the big black beastie was pretty well received. Understand that this is not some backyard car show, but a gathering of some of the coolest cars on the planet. As for the Playboy bunnies… well, there was no shortage of them either. The Mansion was everything I expected. From the dark hidden paths that led to the game room, boom-boom rooms and zoo to the dim lighting of the fabled grotto, this place had it all. It also must have been an absolute riot back in its heyday. Here are some pics to give you an idea of how the night went down…

One of the great parts about being an adult is that your parents don’t have the authority to tell you “NO” anymore. I mean sure they can still give advice, but in the end it’s your prerogative to make the right decisions. For instance, if I were 17 and I told my folks that I wanted to build a 1,250 hp car, I would have been shot down in an instant. However now, being in my late 30′s, I’m free to make all the irresponsible decisions I want. This is Robert Himler, the owner of a 1,250 hp Lamborghini Gallardo that was tuned by Underground Racing. It seems that Robert wanted to have a little fun, so he decided to take his Mom out for a quick spin and then film her reaction with a hidden camera. Even though the car itself is pretty insane, I think you’ll agree that his mother’s reaction to it is even better.
