Car Names: What do you call your ride?

Posted in Buick, Dodge, Funny, Funny Videos, General, Volvo by MrAngry | July 8th, 2010 | 2 Responses |

Vehicle ownership is a very special thing. It’s a bond that forms between the owner and an automobile and it’s one that is very hard to break. Some of these bonds last for months, others, for a lifetime. Cars get under our skin and can, in some cases become a mechanical member of the family. They’re with you through good times and bad, they see holiday’s, births and deaths, and have the ability to be that fence post you lean on when you need some support. Me personally, my cars are family members and I take care of them as such. Sure we have our ups and downs, but at the end of the day and as strange as it may seem, I think we have a mutual respect for each other.

MR ANGRY CHARGER

Each automobile has its own distinct personality. For example my 1968 Dodge Charger is “MR ANGRY”, the 1969 Daytona is “ANGRIER” and my Dodge Magnum SRT8 is simply known as “BRANDO”. All these names are known throughout my family. For example if I’m heading out to visit my buddies they’ll usually ask me “who” I’m bringing, not what. That’s how personal we get with these things.

1967 Buick GS400

Guys who build custom cars are generally pretty fanatical about naming their rides. For example my buddy George in Astoria, Queens has a stunning 1967 Buick GS 400 known as the “BLACK WIDOW”. Naming these beasts of brute force give them personality and identity. For instance, I had a buddy in college that owned an old brown beat up Volvo 240D wagon aptly named, “THE ROAD TURD”. The name was a perfect compliment to the car and it stuck up until the day he sold it.

What I’d like to do is compile a pictorial list of cars and their names to post on the site so what I need from you guys is simple. Take a picture of your car with its name and send it in to me at “mike@ridelust.com” and we’ll post it up. Who knows, maybe if we get enough submissions we’ll get a contest going and perhaps send out some free Ridelust swag to the winners.

My old Saab was named Lars. For my Subie, I’m having trouble finding a name that sticks. I generally call him Rex or the Bento Box.

Or I can send you a pic instead. Sorry about that!
