Cadillac has announced that they’ll proceed with development of an entry level model, to slot in below the CTS, in order to more effectively pirate sales from competitors such as BMW and Mercedes. The new car will be built at Cadillac’s Lansing Grand River facility, and it will ultimately result in the creation of approximately 600 jobs. GM’s CEO, Dan Akerson, was quoted by Carsoop as saying, “America’s fastest-growing luxury brand this year is about to get even more competitive with the addition of an all-new small luxury car. This investment demonstrates GM’s commitment to Cadillac and to a strong U.S. manufacturing base.”
Cadillac was careful to release no further details about the car, even refusing to confirm the ATS name. Popular rumor has the introduction slated for either 2012 or 2013, but Cadillac was silent on a release date since discussing future models has the potential of slowing current sales. I just hope they maintain their front engine, rear drive layout and offer the new cars in ATS-V flavor.
