Ladies and gentlemen, Cadillac is returning to racing in 2011 in the SCCA America World Challenge GT Series and I for one, am totally stoked. If you’ve taken the time to read my reviews on the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe and 2011 CTS-V Sport Wagon then you’ll know that I love both of these cars. With an engine that could pull the moon out of orbit, beautiful interiors and sharp edgy styling, the new CTS-V’s from Cadillac have no problem taking on the competition from the worlds premier manufacturers. For 2011 a race prepped version of the CTS-V Coupe will compete in the SCCA’s World Challenge GT Series, North America’s top production-based series.
Cadillac will be fielding two teams and working in conjunction with Pratt & Miller Engineering to develop the new CTS-V Coupe race cars. Vice President for Cadillac marketing, Don Butler states,
“The racecars in this series are production based, which allows us to validate our performance against the best of our competitors on the track, and not just the showroom.”
Driving for Cadillac in the first event of the SCCA World Challenge will be Andy Pilgrim, who won the 2005 SCCA World Challenge GT (in a Cadillac) and three-time GT1 champion in the America Le Mans Series, Johnny O’Connell. Race one is scheduled for March 25-27 in St. Petersburg, Fla. and is something that I am very much looking forward to watching!
