Brake mega-specialist Brembo and SGL Group are on the verge of combining their considerable knowledge with the aim of widening the use of carbon ceramic brakes in a larger number of vehicles.  By drawing upon carbon fiber technology from SGL and high-performance carbon ceramic brake expertise from Brembo, the use of what are typically expensive brake systems may be more accessible to consumers in the near future.

Brembo is well-known for supplying high performance brake systems, clutches, seats and other components for racing and has been a part of over 200 racing championships.  The SGL Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of carbon-based products and specializes in high-temperature technology that is critically important in braking systems.  SGL Group’s carbon-based materials combine several unique properties such as electrical and thermal conductivity, heat and corrosion resistance while maintaining high mechanical strength and low weight.

It is envisioned that in a few years the carbon ceramic brake business could expand to a larger number of vehicles, and thanks to the properties materials used, will result in lightweight, corrosion resistant,  and more durable brake components than traditional cast iron brakes.
