BMW X3 xDrive20d Emergency Rescue Vehicle Debuts At Geneva

Despite the fact that it’s ultimate purpose is highly respectable, we can’t just can’t bring ourselves to love BMW’s X3 xDrive20d emergency response vehicle that dropped at the Geneva Motor Show this week. We’re not sure if it’s the already-hideous X3 or the muted pastel paint job, but whatever it is prevents us from feeling anything more than plain ambivalence towards this Bimmer bus. Despite the addition of a few rescue-spec gadgets like a custom light-bar and a roof-mounted siren (we don’t care how old you are, sirens are just plain fun) the xDrive20d’s overall design aesthetic still deserves a gaping yawn, and the powertrain doesn’t do much for us either. Powered by a 177-horsepower 2.0L diesel 4-banger, the most impressive feature of the xDrive20d is it’s 35+ mpg fuel-efficiency, which even still is only significant if the emergency you happen to be racing to cares more about your carbon footprint than it does your response time.
