Spy photos of the BMW 135i Convertible have been provided that give a lot of detail as to how the final product is going to look. The car is scheduled to be revealed without its black bumper disguise in January at the NAIAS in Detroit. The 135i coupe and convertibles are destined to be the flagship for the 1-series as they have the greatest output in the line.
The convertible 135i will be the recipient of a cloth top instead of a hard, folding top. The cloth top will allow BMW to keep some costs down as well as keep the weight of the car down. Another advantage of the cloth top will be that there will actually be a little room left in the trunk for a couple small bags. A hard-top convertible would have demanded more room for storage of the top and mechanics. Instead the push-button cloth opperation will benifit the driver with an unubstructed view all the side mirrors to the rear of the car.
Anticipation for the 1-Series is building online if no where else and all those anxious buyers will have to wait a bit longer. The first cars to hit the dealerships will arrive in April, so now is not the time to be pestering your sales rep for information. Expect more data and photos to be revealed in the coming months. In the mean time you can head over to CarMagazine for more photos.
