Detroit’s own reigning champ, the comeback kid, in the blue shorts … FORD! … has posted a sales increase of 2.3%, which is a larger gain than any of its formerly bankrupt competitors, as well as better than Toyota or Honda. What’s the reason for the massive increase? (Well, massive might not be the right word ..) It’s the CARS program, better known as the on-again, off-again Cash for Clunkers program!

Ford has posted a sales gain in almost 24 months, so this is a big deal. 2.3% might not seem like much, but that is a big deal – Ford moved almost 22,000 cars in July. The Focus lead the charge, being the most popular choice for Clunker rebates as it is the most fuel efficient car in the lineup. With the extension of Cash for Clunkers, maybe Ford can clean up even further. We’re frankly amazed anyone is buying the Focus – sure, the Sync system is amazing, but the damn thing dates from Eisenhower’s administration. Imagine what sales would look like if the Fiesta was on sale now!!!

The Fiesta… or the real Focus, you know, the one North America isn’t good enough for.

Sorry, Ford, you’ve got some great product, but the Focus has gotten steadily worse. I have visited Britain. I have seen the light. Bring. Us. The. C1. Focus.
