Hot-rodded imports are usually not my style, but after coming across this wicked 1972 Datsun 510 on BringATrailer.com, I have to say that I may be changing my tune. This particular 510 is probably one of the best looking classic imports on the road today and brings with it a pretty storied past. Back in the 1990’s it was featured in Nissan’s “Dream Car Garage” commercial, were it was clad in all white paint. However soon after its owner added the NOS FJ20 engine and BRE paint scheme. After keeping the car for awhile it was then placed up on eBay where funny man and car enthusiast Adam Carolla picked it up. The car was then sold again to a gentleman in San Marcos, California where it’s now once again, up for sale for the price of $24,000. Crazy right… makes you wonder why no one’s wanted to hold onto it.
This Datsun really is a trick little road rocket with the JDM grill and trim being all NOS parts. The BRE paint scheme combined with subtle fender flares, classic mini-lite wheels, BRE reproduction seats and custom dash also help lend to the cars sporting appeal. Power wise the 510 has a J20 Twin-Cam JDM engine which pumps out 175HP with the help of SK side draft carburetors and a custom exhaust header. Power is put to the pavement by way of a late model 280ZX 5-speed tranny.
Here is a great little video of the car being run at speed up Palomar Mountain in California. I’m a die-hard muscle car guy, but watching and hearing this little bugger rip through the turns makes me want this thing… BAD!
