Cleopatra Jones Car Chase

Ah yes, the 1970’s. A time when fashion was awful, smog regulations were in full swing and car chases in films were made of gold. The following chase comes from the film Cleopatra Jones. The story of secret government agent who moonlights as a fashion model (not making this up) and drives a late ’60’s Corvette. This chase is filled with so much cinematic awesomeness it’s frightening. From the dubbed-over sounds from Bullitt, to the shifting from park to drive while the cars moving, Cleopatra Jones may just contain the campiest car chase I’ve ever seen. Take a look after the jump and let us know what you think.

they truly dont make em like they used to. i especially love that you can se how the stuntmen loose control in some skids and spin around and i also love the way that dodge coronet (can be another car im not all that great at american muscle cars) flip back on its wheels and just keeps on running

I always loved it when the sound editors would add screeching-tire sound effects to scenes where the cars weren’t on pavement, but doing so when the cars are plowing through rocker-deep water…And, incidentally, there may be more water in that canal in this movie than in any other movie or TV show I’ve seen it used in. And can a ’73 Corvette really break the tires loose on a 3-4 upshift? Because that’s what this one seems to be doing. Hey, take note of how the ’70 Galaxie and the ’67 Mustang get beaten to hell and the customized ‘Vette never gets touched…
