Chalking up another win for team Audi, the latest records accounting for vehicle registration in Germany have revealed that the Audi A4 was the most purchased/registered premium model vehicle in 2008 with an impressive total of 98,714 registrations. Ensuring Audi’s domination of the German market, the Audi TT roadster and the Audi A6 sedan also published segment-leading registration numbers, totaling 10,630 and 45,304 registrations in 2008 respectively. Perhaps in anticipation of becoming the peoples’ favorite, late in 2008 Audi debuted a mid-cycle refresh of the Audi A6 as well as the Audi TT TDI – the world’s first diesel-engine production sports car – which ultimately pushed Audi’s share on the German domestic market to 8.1%, a full .8% more than the previous year.
Total, Audi managed to expand its market share in Western Europe altogether by .4% to 4.1% – the only brand in its class to do so. “Audi is presently experiencing stronger growth than any other premium brand in the region – and thanks to new models we will maintain this dynamism,” said Audi AG Chairman of the Board of Management, Rupert Stadler. “In a difficult market environment, we want to further expand our market share in Germany and Western Europe.”
