Are gold and platinum scale models really necessary?

As a kid I had boxes full of Matchbox and Hotwheels cars and God knows I took them everywhere I went. These little four wheeled creations helped put me on the automotive path that I’m on today, as they truly did spike the imagination of this automotive writer. Now a company called Ultima Jewelry is creating 1/24 scale replicas of your favorite exotic cars in, get this… gold and platinum. The replicas sell for between $34,000-$122,000 and in my opinion are the BIGGEST waste of money in the history of modern currency. Ultima Jewelry is also pimping out a Japanese industrial designer named Nori Miyata as the creator of these ridiculous little trinkets in the hopes that this will pump up sales. What’s even more ludicrous than the models themselves though is the $6.00 website of Ultima Jewelry. I mean really, if you’re going to try and stick it to the general public at least have the decency to do it by means of having a great website.
