Confirming the worst-kept secret in all of motorcycling, Aprilia has apparently posted a copy of the Dorsoduro 1200 service manual online. There’s no information on horsepower (plenty) or availability (Soon, we hope), but Autoblog seems to think the Dorsoduro 1200 will be introduced at the November EICMA Show in Milan.
The Dorsoduro 1200 faces stiff competition from the Ducati Hypermotard 1200, the KTM 990 SM-T and even the BMW R1200 GS. Expect the big Dorso to undercut all (except maybe the KTM) on price, and aim more at the “sport” side of sport touring. The 1200cc motor will likely utilize the same “tri map” electronic throttle control as it’s baby brother, and I say two thumbs up. I’ve ridden the 750cc version of Aprilia’s v-twin, and it’s a fantastic motor that has a broad, usable powerband. Adding 450cc of displacement is the kind of wretched excess that I salute, and I can’t wait to ride one when they hit dealer showrooms.
