7,016 Tickets in One Weekend?!? YOU SUCK VIRGINIA!!

Virginia Trooper

It’s stuff like this that really burns me. Virginia is known to be one of, if not the toughest state in the country when it comes to speeding. Now it seems that because the state has a budget deficit of $2.2 billion they’re trying to use motorists to bail them out. My favorite part of this mess is that our tax dollars helped fund this by paying the overtime to the Troopers with a federal grant.

The state issued a total of 7,016 tickets to motorists over the two-day blitz. With the majority of them being speeding tickets. If you got nailed doing 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit, your fine was classified as “Reckless Driving” and came with a “GO F*CK YOURSELF” fine of $2500… ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The entire state should be embarrassed by this…

    $2500 for 10-15 over??? Horrible.

I got nabbed a few years ago travelling through Indiana doing 93 in a 65 and the ticket was only $125…plus $800 worth of insurance fines over the next 2 years. Factor the insurance hit that comes with “reckless driving” and you have well over $3k in fines for a speeding ticket.

Yeah, f@ck Virginia. I got nailed there in “Mr. Angry” for doing a 100 mph, which was bull$#it. No radar, no pacing, no nothing–just an officer’s “guess”. Automatic reckless driving for being over 85 mph, $2k fine, had to hire an attorney–they wanted to throw me in jail for 10 days. Oh, and they suspended my license as well. Thank god I don’t live in that pie hole of a state.

If this is the same fee schedule enacted several years back, it’s been ruled unconstitutional under the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution by several VA District Judges. The “piling-on” fines are assessed to VA residents only and not for out-of-state drivers and fail the Constitution test.

If this is still going on today, they my guess is that the law hasn’t been repealed, yet.

Traffic fines like these have always been less about driver safety and mostly about filling local and state budgets up with free money.

I pass through Virginia at least 4 times a year. It’s the only state I’ve gotten a ticket in over the last 10 years. And I’ve gotten four of them.

Nice. I happen to live in VA. I think I will be riding my bicycle until this deficit magically vanishes (i.e. the drivers have paid it off for the state).

This state is like a bad blowjob. It’s common for them to harrass people daily for 2.2 billion. They robbed the public of money that we are putting into the grant and giving tickets out like food stamps, we DON’T HAVE THE MONEY JACKASS.Then the state is using the loophole like a trick at a bar. Instead of putting money into other city and state projects that could’ve have been roadkill, where it really should have been HELPING THE PEOPLE, but they’re try to make a “lemon” into a expensive ride :/
