They say that necessity is the mother of invention. If that’s the case, what was the mother of this otherworldly motorcycle? It sure as hell wasn’t necessity, unless you have a desperate need to impress a mechanical engineer. You’re wondering – is this real? It sure is – and it runs. Make the jump to see it in action.

Essentially 48 individual 88cc cylinders derived from a Kawasaki Triple, with the crankshafts joined so as to form 6 banks of 8 cylinders apiece (with each bank functioning as its own complete engine, geared together with the other crankshafts), it’s actually a pretty ingenious creation. We can’t find any horsepower numbers but assume it’s somewhere in the realm of ridiculous. Simon Whitlock, the creator of this beast, fires it up in the video below.
