RideLust loves a good, juicy rumor just as much as the next auto blog – especially when it might actually have some merit to it. Proceeded by months of speculation about a new, Subaru-Toyota hybrid Celica, Subaru has officially confirmed that it will be unveiling an exciting new concept car at the Detroit auto show in January. So will it be the 2011 Celica of legends told? It’s too soon to tell, but we do know that Toyota and Subaru have been collaborating on a RWD sports-coupe slated for release during the 2011 model year (which, for all you laymen, means it will debut in either 2009 or 2010). If our suspicions are confirmed and the concept vehicle Subaru unleashes is, in fact, the highly anticipated 2011 Celica, here’s the rundown on what you can expect:
Intended to be an Impreza STi/Celica crossbreed, the 2011 Subieyota Celica will be a RWD 2-door coupe offered with two variations: GT or GT-4. The Celica GT will feature Subaru’s 2.0L boxer engine, while the GT-4 will be equipped with the Impreza STi’s 300-hp 2.0L boxer engine as well as Subaru’s unique 4WD [complete with in-wheel electric motors for white-knuckle performance].
