2011 Subaru WRX

We all know that the Subaru Impreza WRX is one kick ass little hot-rod. It’s small, fast and is wicked good in the corners. In fact we’ve got a great review of one coming up in the next few days. For 2011 though it seems that Subaru is taking a page out of the old GM handbook. Granted for 2011 they gave it a wider track, but what’s with all the scoops and bulged fenders. I’m just having visions of late 80’s and early 90’s GM products where they slapped on fake hood scoops and fender flares to give the impression that their cars weren’t piles of crap.

Subaru, if you’re listening… you guys are way too good for that. Make sure you keep one of our favorites on the right track.

OK, what’s the difference in scoop/fender flare for the sedan over the scoops and flares of the sportback of 2010?

Seriously… Have you ever seen any of the previous versions of the WRX? Every single one with the exception of the earliest on had flared fenders and FUNCTIONAL ducts and hood scoops. The 2008-2010 body style of the WRX was lacking this. This is why they are releasing it this way. Compare the 2011 WRX with the 2010 STI. You would see that they are pretty much the same style. You mention that they increased the wheel base. If they increase the wheelbase but do not flare the fenders what do you think happens? Tire damage and a possible safety recall. Before you start beating on Subaru for changing something on their cars do more research.
