Despite popular rumor that the Dakar Rally would actually return to Africa in 2011, organizers have confirmed that the race will again be held in South America next year. The event will run from January 2 through January 15th, with podium days in Buenos Aires on January 1 and January 16. The route runs northwest through Argentina, crossing into Chile on the January 5th stage. Once in Chile, the route continues northwest to the cost before looping south towards Copiapó. The stage scheduled for January 12th crosses the Andes, so this year’s race should include every type of terrain imaginable.
