2011 Porsche GT3 RS vs 2011 GT2 RS: What would you do?

Ok, so say Dr. Ferdinand Porsche rose from the dead, knocked on your door and said, “Dude, today’s your lucky day as I’d like to present you with either the new 2011 GT3 RS or the new 2011 GT2 RS. You may choose only one but be quick about it because I’ve got shit to do today, so hurry up and decide – you’ve got 5 minutes.” So now you’re sitting there with your brain in flux trying to decide between two of the best super cars on the planet Earth. Sure they both share some common characteristics, but underneath their both completely different automobiles. Each one possesses amazing super car performance, stellar looks and the ability to strike fear into the hearts of all other automobiles. You can only have one of them though, so which will it be?

First there is the astonishing GT3 RS, a car that is considered to be more race car than street car. It breaths fire, bellows smoke from its tires and has been known to incinerate just about every adversary that it comes across. It has 450 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque and will rocket you to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, then onto a top speed of 193 mph. This is no beginner car and in the right hands it would be like bringing a bazooka to a gun fight. Which, let’s be honest, is totally cool. This car is like walking into a room and seeing Heidi Klum buck-ass naked on the bed waiting for you. You know it’s got proven performance due to it’s history, but you have to ask yourself if you’re actually man enough to take the reigns for awhile.

Then you start to think about it and remember that you also have a shot at the new 2011 Porsche GT2 RS, the fastest and most powerful road car that Porsche has ever built. This car is so fast in fact that I’ve heard it actually has the ability to turn your sphincter inside out if you hit the gas pedal hard enough. Its twin-turbo flat-6 has 620 hp which means 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and, if you can unclench your butt cheeks long enough it will take you to a terminal velocity of 205 mph. If there is a downside to the GT2 RS it’s the fact that it will kill you if your not careful. This car is Lindsay Lohan hanging upside down from a chandelier with a bowl of coke in one hand and a cucumber in the other. You know you’ll never ever tame it, but God dammit if you don’t want to give it a go.

So, whatcha’ think… will it be the full-on track monster GT3 RS, or the earth shaking straight line banshee GT2 RS? Tough choice isn’t it…

To quote the great Tallahassee: “Nut up or shut up.” I’m going GT2 all the way. Sure, my dumbass will probably be tasting guardrail less than a mile from the dealer….but I’ll be smiling.

that has to be my favorite automotive quote. right behind the one about the f430 that was on here

GT2 is better looking than GT3’s fish mouth, so I’ll go with that.

  4. “This car is Lindsay Lohan hanging upside down from a chandelier with a bowl of coke in one hand and a cucumber in the other” hahah that is definitely a strong comparison. I would too go with GT2, would love to take that baby to the circuit and burn the shit out of it, not sure if i can handle all those ponies and :taste the guardrail!

GT3 all the way I would rather have a car proven on a track then a straight line speed one

    I’ll take the GT3 RS.

In theory, the GT2 would beat the GT3 RS around most tracks – but I’ll never be a good enough driver to extract enough out of them to tell the difference.

A guy that I see on my commute uses his GT3 RS as a daily driver. It’s either the stupidest or the best decision I’ve ever seen. I’m leaning towards the latter.

If you do your reading you will find that the GT2 RS is hardly a straight line rocket. This is not a GT2. What this discussion is about to me is not looks because although I like pretty things, I chose function before form and am of the firm belief that when it comes to sports cars, less is more.

So having said that, I happen to have my name on a GT2 RS but did seriously think about the GT3RS because I prefer no turbos. But the GT2RS is a compelling point. It is a superlative. The fastest production car to date to lap the famed Nurburgring track in a mind blowing 7.18secs. Consider for a moment the company in which this car sits when you review the tops speeds at that track (you can google it). Then consider its engine displacement and its price tag. After you get done with that if you are still not blown away, consider for a second that this car is a car you can drive to get a bag of groceries without really making an event out of…this car is a superlative. Its not just the fastest car the company has made for the road, its the fastest production car in the world for a price that is fractional to its competition. What a concept! The Veyron for all its glory and achievements does not touch the GT2RS on the track, not even close. So when you look at GT3RS vs GT2RS you have to consider all the above and then consider its limited production numbers of 500 for the world, a fraction of that for the US. Folks, I’m selling the house to have the chance to own such car, to be on top of the world for as long as it lasts, and look forward to keeping it as MY F40 of the day (by the way, there were a 1000 F40s made).

    All the best,

    L.

Since I own a GT2RS and want to “downgrade” to a GT3RS, I guess that answers that then. The GT3 is more suited to trackwork and on a shorter twisty track you cannot make use of the extra grunt (I live in the UK) – however round the ‘ring the GT2RS is waaay quicker.

NA GT3 RS is the purity of driving… pity the 991 gt3 will be a PDK
