Do you prefer your motoring al fresco, with a side order of performance, hold the luxury? Do you want a little exclusivity with that? Then I strongly recommend you order up a 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster. In fact, I recommend you get your order in as soon as possible, since they’ll only be available in a limited quantity. Like the medium rare prime rib served up by your favorite restaurant, when it’s gone, it’s gone.
Unlike prime rib, which will generally be back the following day, or the following week, the Porsche Speedster is limited to 356 copies worldwide, honoring the original Porsche 356 Speedster, launched in 1953 and sold until 1958. Like the original, the new model will feature a chopped and raked windshield with a limited-use-only fabric top. Unlike the original, the new Speedster will feature a water cooled, 3.8 liter flat-six motor, good for some 402 horsepower to the rear wheels. To keep things simple, Porsche will only offer the Speedster with their seven-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox, sending power to a locking rear differential for optimum traction. The new car also gets the same wide-body rear treatment as the Carrera 4S Cabriolet.
Prices and performance stats haven’t been announced, but I’ll summarize by saying “expensive” and “fast”. If you need more detail on the expensive part, you probably aren’t in the target demographic for the Speedster. On the other hand, if money is no object and you have to have one, get your order placed before the other 355 customers do.
