2011 Ford Explorer

With the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee hitting the market soon Ford needs to be quick about taking the wraps off of its new 2011 Ford Explorer. What is interesting however is Jeep has already released a few ads depicting the new 2011 Grand Cherokee has having Jeeps legendary off-road capabilities where Fords new Explorer looks to be more of a soccer mom transport vehicle. Hmm… SMTV, I wonder if I could copyright that.

Anyway, with the nose of the new Ford Taurus, the ass-end of the Ford Edge and the ride height of the Ford Flex, the new 2011 Ford Explorer looks to be all on road in its capabilities. This is not necessarily a bad thing, what it means though is that Ford is simply re-prioritizing what the Explorer is about. For example, when the Explorer first came out in 1992 it was more truck like than car like. It was great off-road and really redefined the concept of what an SUV was. Then over the years the Explorer got fat and sort of lost its way in the SUV market. Now for 2011 it seems that Ford has the Explorer back on a straight path that is not one of off-road adventures, but one of civilized urban transport. What do you guys think?

So far I’D buy a new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, mainly because it’s rear wheel drive, which we know will have a better safer towing capacity.

I think ford is going to lose many of its die hard explorer fans with this one. Explorer is expected to have good offroad capabilities as well as street but I think ford took it too far in the street direction. Ford is already building suv’s and crossovers that fit what the new explorer is trying to accomplish.
