Let me preface this post by saying that what you are viewing has NOT been confirmed by Chrysler as of yet, but according to OntarioStreetcar.com this is the real deal. These are supposedly leaked copies of a preliminary sales brochure on the 2011 Dodge line-up, complete with specs on the new 5.7-liter and more importantly, the new 6.4-liter 392 HEMI that is to be found in Chrysler’s all new SRT8 line-up of cars. Now before everyone gets into a big hullabaloo about comparing the Challenger and Charger to the new Mustang and Camaro, remember one thing. The Challenger and Charger ARE NOT sports cars, they are mile eating GT style cars, which means they were not meant for the road course but more for the long haul and open road.
Lets hit the 5.7-liter first shall we. Power has been boosted from 368 hp/395 lb-ft torque to 379 hp/410 lb-ft torque. Honestly it’s not as huge of an increase in oomph as we’d like to see, but it’s better than nothing. The new Chrysler SRT8 cars will also be getting a little bump in power thanks to the new 392 6.4-liter HEMI. Power is up from 425 hp/420 lb-tq. to 475 hp/460 lb-ft. Again, this is good, but I think that everyone was expecting the 500 hp + from the new SRT line.
New for 2011 is also another styling exercise from Chrysler in the form of the Challenger 392 “Inaugural Edition”. This car will be limited to 1,100 units and gives you absolutely no additional performance over the standard Challenger SRT8, it’s just a little bit more in the way of glitz. Quite frankly I hate it when Chrysler does this… how about instead of fancy clothes you guys put that money into some additional performance modifications. Trust me when I tell you that people could give a crap about paint.
