I have been waiting for this car to come out for quite some time. You see as the owner of one of Chrysler’s SRT8 vehicles I know from a consumer standpoint, just how good these cars really are. The current 6.1-liter HEMI pumps out 425 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque which is not too shabby. Consider though that every car that is powered by this engine weighs in excess of 4000 lbs, and I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s time for a power bump. Enter the new 2011 Dodge Challenger with Chrysler’s new 392 HEMI engine, a mill that makes 470 hp and 470 lb-ft. of torque. Chrysler is up against some pretty stiff competition for 2011 in the form of the new 2011 5.0-liter Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro SS, so an updated Challenger SRT8 is a car that needs to deliver on all points for Dodge.
According to Dodge the new 2011 Challenger SRT8 392 is coming to market with a new host of tasty bits, including new highly damped shocks, quicker steering ratios and fully hydraulic steering system with a new, heavy-duty pump. The result of which adds up to an impressive .93g of lateral acceleration on the skid pad. To mark the introduction of the new 392 Challenger, the first 1,492 units will be known as the “Inaugural Edition” and will include special Deep Water Blue paint, special 20-inch wheels and custom accents. Hopefully the new Challenger will live up to the hype that Dodge is touting around it because, like I said, with the current crop of powerhouse muscle out roaming the streets these days they can’t afford to come up shorthanded.
