2010 Trans Am Firebird Indeed On The Way, Courtesy Trans Am Depot-Kevin Morgan
Okay, some of us are actually a bit bummed that Pontiac is dead. But we feel a lot better after hearing this news: Trans Am Depot will premier their conversion kit inspired by Kevin Morgan’s sultry concept sketches at this year’s Trans Am Nationals. The final car will be based on the current Camaro platform (much like the original Firebird, no?) and will be offered as dealer-installed conversion only.
There’s no word yet on official performance specs nor on pricing, but rest assured, it will be very Camaro under there (whatever that means).
There’s a Press Release after the jump detailing the extent of the exterior and interior modifications thus far, as well as a photo gallery of the inspirational sketches for this retro beauty.
Oh, and lest I forget, a completely worthless teaser video, as well!
The Gallery is here, full of a few awesome color combinations. There is also what looks to be a real car in there, and I must say, I’m a big fan of the real flames look on the hood chickens.
That worthless teaser video is here. But don’t get your hopes up.
Finally, the Press Release is here:
Phoenix T/A
Like its mythical namesake that rose from the ashes to a new life, the Trans Am of yesteryear has been born again… the Phoenix T/A. If it is true that good things come to those who wait, then we have surely been rewarded for our patience.
Trans Am Depot is pleased to announce our partnership with designer Kevin Morgan in turning a three-year dream into reality. We, like many of you, have lusted over Kevin’s retro interpretation of the ’77 – ’78 Trans Am based on the 2010 Camaro platform. We began early last year discussing the idea of how we might work together to bring this vision to life.
Phoenix T/A Currently, we are completing a one-off Kevin Morgan “Trans Am” Concept, which we intend to unveil at the 2009 Trans Am Nationals. The concept will be followed by the first production conversion later this year. It will vary from the concept car but will be an exact version of the conversion kits we will hope to be offering this fall. We are working closely with a Detroit auto design firm to bring this kit to market. We will be offering everything from the body conversion only to the limited Phoenix Edition. The kits will be available as an installed conversion only. Order details, pricing and delivery information will be coming soon. If you are interested in having a conversion performed on your Camaro or purchasing a turn-key conversion from Trans Am Depot, please fill out the customer form below.

Why anyone thought it was a good plan to put quad rounds in the old-square-lights nose is truly beyond me.
Also, when they say Phoenix, they don’t mean the abysmal X-body, hopefully? They’re going for a Vice-City-Malaise-ponycar theme?

Speaking of a similar conversion. I’d love to see someone come up with a “Cougar” version of the Mustang complete with hide-away headlights and progressive rear blinkers.

I think the white with blue strip, bottom left, with the ram air picture is the true trans am.It should come with the same engine that the new ss camaro comes with since the camaro /trans ams did the last time with the LT1 and Ls1. Now the Camaro 425 hp v8 becouse of the bigger body from these cars than last time.

You know I mean really it’s the way it’s always been for a big part of the model line. They were always interchangeable so if they can pull this off the better I say. I mean I love the looks of that above. It’s just a shame Pontiac went dead, so it will obviously never be mainstream car, but that may make it all the more appealing to many.

This Trans Am requires this body kit (http://www.kevinmorgandesigns.com/sema2009.html )
to have the spirit of the original car.

I think this is pretty cool. I like the original bird on the hood better than the flame thing though. I hope to see one of these on the road soon.

I like the 2010 Trans Am very much and think it blows away the Camaro. Wish it would be released and Pontiace would return. Always been a Firebird/Trans Am person.
