2010 Toyota Sienna: When Minivans Are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Drive Minivans

Posted in Car Buying, Funny Videos, Toyota by Kurt Ernst | May 4th, 2010 | 3 Responses |

No, really – this is how Toyota chooses to pitch minivans these days? By having the family pictured in the Sienna ads rap? Badly? This ad is like watching a train wreck; you want to look away, but somehow morbid fascination compels you to watch as douche chills run down your spine.

Minivans are like the boring house with the white picket fence in suburbia; you don’t buy them because they’re your dream, you buy them to serve a purpose. A minivan, no matter how optioned out it may be, isn’t a “swagger wagon”. It is a multifunctional conveyance that transports people and associated goods from Point A to Point B with a minimal amount of fuss. If you’re a driver, piloting one is a sentence, not a privilege.

You’ll either like the vid and get a laugh, or feel compelled to smother everyone involved in its production with a pillow. Sound off, yo? Or just tell me what you think.

Ummm, yah. That video was frikkin awesome! I laughed my butt off and it was very creative. What’s wrong with it? NOT A DAMN THING. Stop hating you squares.

Yeah, that was damn funny. I think that you’ve got to take some points off, as it’s actually taking itself seriously as an ad for a car. If it was done by say a real family, as just a take on everyday normal family life, with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek, then it would be absolute tops. Plus, some of the lines actually work; “No mother fathering cussing…”? C’mon, that’s pretty good. “I’m kind of a big deal”? Great parody.

I have to admit, I hate these commercials. Some example these “parents” are of proper behavior. Like when the guy has his toddler washing his car? Fussing that the 3 year old missed a spot? Or the mom ignoring her family so she can have “mommy’s time out” in the CAR? My “favorite” is the dad talking about showing is kids how to behave, and then acts like an immature jerk when an acquaintance of his has the nerve to have HIS SAME CAR!! Like there aren’t 10000s of mini-vans in suburbia. Any family with a shred of common sense would not want to be equated with these self-aggrandizing idiots. Unfortunately, if they were going for tongue-in-cheek they failed. This was the wrong way to try and win over the average American after their massive recall. Unless that is how they perceive Americans overseas, which should then translate to a wake-up call for the average American. Either way, I change the channel when these commercials come on. Ack. (/soapbox rant)
