Upping the customer service ante considerably, Ford CEO Alan Mullaly has made the headlines today after personally calling a customer to thank him for purchasing a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. According to the customer, Grand Rapids, MI resident and local attorney Michael Snapper, his ultimate intention was to purchase an “environmentally responsible car” and his initial plans were leading him towards the notoriously green Toyota Prius. After further consideration, however, Snapper settled on the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, a change of heart for which Mulally was apparently eternally grateful.

While some have dismissed Mullaly’s personal phone call as merely a publicity stunt, we give Mullaly a tremendous amount of credit for his impressive dedication to Ford. Although one phone call might not sway the masses, it does demonstrate both a tenacity and a commitment that we’ll admit makes us feel a cliched sort of pride in the American auto industry.
