A prototype version of the ill-fated Camaro SS took to the famed Nürburgring in Germany this weekend, lapping the gauntlet in a reported 8 minutes and 19 seconds. Despite lagging noticeably behind the Corvette ZR1’s 7:26 ‘ring time, the 2010 Camaro SS still finished a whole three seconds faster than the Cobalt SS and 11 seconds ahead of the Pontiac G8 GXP. While this isn’t the first time the Camaro SS has been spotted at the Nürburgring, it is the closest we’ve gotten to seeing the production-ready flex its specs. According to GM, the Camaro SS that took to the track this weekend was an 80% representation of the production model, and it’s likely the extra armor padded its final ring time by a few seconds.
Although it’s unclear when it will occur, GM does expect the official running of the production-ready 2010 Camaro SS to run the full length of the track a couple of seconds faster than the prototype.
