2010 Chevy Camaro SS Lands Gig As Official Indy 500 Pace Car

Kicking off the Centennial Era of the Indianapolis 500, the iconic and slightly elusive 2010 Chevy Camaro SS will serve as the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500 IndyCar race. Revealed during a ceremony at the IMS Hall of Fame Museum, the 2010 Camaro SS will take its first lap at the Indy 500 as the first Camaro to lead the Indy pack since 1993. Aside from the eye-catching Indy-exclusive exterior graphics, the only modifications made to the Camaro SS pace car was the addition of GM-designed custom light bar and Whelen 500 series linear strobes. Beneath the hood, the 2010 Camaro SS will rock the Indy spot completely stock with a 6.2-liter LS3 Chevy V8, producing 426 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm.
The newly christened Camaro SS will perform its first official duties as the Indy 500 pace car on Sunday, May 24, 2009.
