Designed to commemorate this year’s success of the Pratt & Miller Racing team, Chevy has introduced a new limited-production Corvette collector’s package, the 2009 GT1 Championship Edition. Unveiled in concept by Tom Hill, Quality Engineering Manager of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, at the NCRS Awards Banquet in Florida last weekend, the first GT1 Championship Edition will begin production early this spring.
Available in coupe, convertible, and Z06 models, the GT1 Championship Edition features body-colored door handles, carbon-patterned engine cover, a ZR1 full-width spoiler, QV9 forged chrome wheels, Z51 Performance Package, and NPP Performance exhaust. To achieve a distinctive exterior styling, all GT1 models will be available in either 45U Velocity Yellow or 41U Black paint, replete with with C6.R Pratt & Miller Racing Team-designed graphics and a striping package bearing the racing team’s mascot, “Jake.” Looking to imitate the CR.6 racing ‘Vette as much as possible, each GT1 will also bear the names of all the Pratt & Hill drivers, as well as a record of all the C6.R’s victories displayed on the lower door in a brush script graphic.
Although no official numbers have been released regarding pricing or production numbers, we expect more information to be provided later the more momentum the GT1 Championship Edition project gains.
