1971 AMC Javelin For Sale: $950,000

Want to own a piece of racing history? How about a 1971 AMC Javelin, built by Roger Penske and driven by Mark Donohue? Up for grabs at the Canepa Collection, this car is said to be the last car driven by Mark Donohue before his retirement from Trans Am racing, and is the only car built by Roger Penske Racing in 1971. Originally constructed for the 1970 Trans Am season, car number 6 was rebodied in 1971 to feature wider fenders and a revised rear deck.

Mark Donohue won the 1971 over 2.5 liter Trans Am championship with this car, and it’s been fully restored to 1971 competition specs. Even with the car’s history, a price tag of nearly a million dollars seems wildly optimistic to me, but if you can’t live without it in your collection, give Canepa Design a call.

Mark Donahue details the story behind this car in his book, “The Unfair Advantage” for anyone who’s interested (a good book, btw). TransAm + Mark Donahue + Penske = very cool. But still…I agree….$950k is a wee-bit steep.

Cool car for a cool mil? Um….don’t think so. But it is an awesome car.
